Wendy's Bought by Arby's: Let's Talk Burger Joints
Posts
Ugh.
When Wendy's have that bacon mushroom cheese melt, holy fuck I gain 20 pounds because I'd go like 3 times a week and get the extra patty on it. Spicy baconator is really good also, although it's far from spicy. Arby's sucks complete nuts.

We've eaten Chick-fil-a?
I'm sorry, but I would rather have a chicken sandwich from Karl's Jr... and we all know that is just cat with feathers shoved in it.
I don't know if there is any difference in quality between McDonalds or Burger King, since they both use Grade E meat. My friend told me about that one, but he used to be vegetarian, so take that for what you will.
Also, I've been dying to try Sonic for years, but I live in Massachusetts, so the closest one is over in Vermont or something.
Durian tastes alright, and is famous for smelling bad. Also, it's a fruit. So it's supposed to be that way.
All fast food has it tough when they're in the same region as In n Out. Heck, even Tommy's, Fatburger, and Farmer Boys get short-shrifted in In n Out LAnd.
I mean, it's just delightful. There are a million different things that should be better than it, and in some respects are better than it, but the Big Mac just does its own thing and it's totally great.
Sonic is amazing. There isn't an item on that menu that I wouldn't want to try. They also have some tasty desserts.
Also on the chick-fil-a issue: I can understand if you don't like some of their items (anything outside of their nuggets and chicken sandwich combos taste awful, especially their chicken strips, which seem to be pickled in ball sweat), but those nuggest and sandwich are far and beyond what their competitors have to offer. Again, wendys/BK/whatever has passable to decent chicken sandwiches, but Chick-fil-a's runs circles around it. I dont know, this is probably a southern consensus more than anything.
Also Carl's Jr is awful.
The problem is that a lot of folks try to compare McDonald's to other burgers/burger joints, and that's when things fall apart. Big Macs are great for what they are, but what they are NOT are real hambugers. Big Macs are to real hamburgers as Totino's Party Pizzas are to real pizza. Both are delicious, but they're not at all interchangeable.
Edit: Also, Chick-Fil-A is hands down the best fast food chicken out there. Maybe you other folks have CFA's run by horrible people who don't store/cook their food properly, but every one I've ever been to is great.
That is all, uncivilized fast-food bitches.
I'd take a spicy chicken from wendy's any day over any of that bilge they serve at chik-fil-a.
LoL: failboattootoot
Wait, this is just fast food chicken sandwiches, right?
Because for non-sandwiched chicken, Popeye's.
Although Nathan's at Coney Island was pretty awesome, in a "Dear God, thank god I would only come here once a year" kinda way.
That said, I'm blessed with like three different Five Guys in driving distance from me, so I rarely eat at McDonalds, Wend'ys, BK etc that much anymore.
When I do though, its always Wendy's. Those baconators are damn tasty.
Agreed with Five Guys, they opened one in my area, and went to try it out for the first time, artery clogging goodness. Though they fries have either to much salt or to much seasoning for the cajun fries.
Also I'm probably speaking heresy, but my burgers are always plain, just cheese. I'm craven to putting anything else in it; don't like mayo, the joke they call pickles, or the the lake of mustard fast food places are known to do in my area. Or maybe I just like the taste of beef alone. I'm tempted by five guys with all the free toppings you can put on it though, any recommendations?
Chipotle is good, but it really seems to have dropped in quality of late. Not sure why.
In terms of fries, I'm kinda spoiled - there's this lovely local chain (5 places around Sacramento, I believe it is) named Jack's Urban Eats which has fantastic fries. And really great grilled chicken and tri-tip sandwiches, too. Tad more expensive than your run of the mill fast food, but the difference in taste is worth it.
As for burger joints?
Got addicted to those in college. No other chain restaraunt comes close. There was a local burger joint in State College which was better, but it was on the other side of town, sadly.
It's basically the same thing. Subway-style burrito making. But the only place I've ever seen Freebirds is in Santa Barbara. Are there more of them around?
The best State-side burger that I've had is from a local place called Mojo's. I don't know WHAT they do to their meat to get it to be that delicious, but I'm getting one tonight and I'm gonna ENJOY it!
That and the waffle fries kick ass.

Rallys, the southern branch of Checkers, once had a Pizza Burger on the menu. It was like a cheeseburger made with mozzarella cheese, a giant slice of pepperoni, and marinara sauce.
And it was my favorite.
There's not one in the New Orleans area that I know of. The only one I can think of is Gonzales, which is like a hour and a half away.

Alas, there's no real local burger joints around my place, the closest is a Mr. Burger, a decent place a good hour or so away.

Fuck yes. I used to get it every day during my lunch break at work.
Having the pannedo taken off of the menu was like having my legs cut off.
Which is what would have happened anyway, what with the diabetes.
totally worth it.
that sandwich was magic.
I was instantly tired upon finishing it. It's a damn good thing I eat like that only a few times a year.
so that is what people mean when they tell me to go to fast food for supplementary empty calories

This.
Motherfuckers deserve to go bankrupt not putting that burger on the regular menu.
It pretty much occupies the back of the line, down there with McDonalds and Roach Coaches. It generally goes, around here, if money were not considered (especially since everyone is getting really close to costing the same)
Hardee's > Subway = Quiznos > Taco John's > Burger King > Taco Bell > Arby's > KFC > Roach Coaches > McDonald's > Wendy's
Hardee's used to be eh, but whoever bought them really turned them around. They had a moment of idiocy where they eliminated curly fries from their menu. The outcry was so great that their business plummeted. Then they got smart and brought them back. Their burgers are the only ones I can eat and not have to use the bathroom within 5 minutes. They're also the only one left where the workers actually come out from behind the counter anymore.
Subway improved a LOT. I remember them tasting like crap. Now these days their sandwhiches are pretty good. Quiznos I go for the toasty taste. Subway can't seem to get that quite right..
Taco John's is awesome for one product: Potato Oles. I think they could legally register those things as a narcotic.
Burger King is kind of up and down. For one, I only go to ones that still have the Rodeo Burger on the menu. Two, why the fuck did they remove the spicy version of the chicken sandwich? and then introduce it back.. but only on the dollar menu? Come on, guys.
Taco Bell is decent. It'd be great if I could get Baja Blast in 2 liter bottles though.
McDonald's food has been crap for a long time. It's not filling and not interesting to eat. However, their breakfast is actually pretty good these days, especially with their bagel sandwhiches. I was sad when I went to Seattle fo rPAX and the McDonald's did not have my damn bagel breakfast sandwhich, instead it was some stupid waffle bun thingy.
However, In-N-Out will always reign supreme. Fuck your chick-fill-aye, your sailor-man brand poultry, your son of Carl, and whatever the hell else you say is 'good'. In-N-Out WINS. Bar none.
