I used the word broadband, but a regular phone-line thing will work. And this copy protection thing only needs you to connect like once every 10 or 15 days, so it's really not that excessive.
The archives are down at the moment, but early on with the PSP, he openly talked about not updating his firmware so that he could continue to use pirated games that loaded through homebrew apps. His way of phrasing whether or not he pirated things was something along the lines of "if you're wondering whether or not I pirate games, hi, I'm Tycho, and this is a website about video games."
$50 per month? That's fucking insane. I have Comcast and it's $30. I don't even have their phone or TV service. Further, are you telling me that you can't afford an internet connection? Do you post exclusively from public computers or Wifi hotspots? Forget whether or not it's "fifty-dollar broadband" because you don't even need that. NetZero or whatever is sufficient.

So if you start the game up even just one time in a wifi hotspot or at home, even for just like 30 seconds or whatever, you're set for the next week or two. And this is assuming that you, for some reason, don't normally play at home. Like, you normally go out to a park to play your video games on your laptop.
