If you are looking for an online service to purchase songs I would recommend Napster (however the last time I used it was about 6-7 months ago) it worked good for me, I never had any problems with it and the selection was pretty good.
If you don't wish to go with Rhapsody your best bet is with eMusic. Just about every music subscription service out there has either gone under or merged with Rhapsody. The only subscription music services out there now is eMusic, Napster and Rhapsody.
