[Help]Monitor Turning Itself Off

Fleck0Fleck0 Registered User regular
This is a new problem that started last night, my monitor just turns itself off and won't come back on unless I reboot the machine. As of this morning I can only usually don't make it to the welcome screen before the monitor turns off and the status light goes amber like when it's in sleep mode

For some reason the monitor stays on while I'm in safe mode, though I get all sorts of pink and blue dots everywhere. I'm hoping I can fix this without blowing a lot of money

The monitor is a Viewsonic A90 CRT and my video card is an Nvidia Geforce4 ti 4400

Make sure that your monitor is tightly connected(at both ends, some monitors have detaching cords), and that your video card is securely fastened in it's slot. A good tug on the cable can unseat the video card, causing errors like that.

If that's not the problem, it's most likely your video card(TI's are pretty fucking old).

Try pulling out your video card and putting it back in. If that does not work, I'd look for new video card.

I figured as much damn ancient video card, if taking some compressed air to everything doesn't do the trick I suppose I'll head down to fry's today.

You can also clean the video card contacts by lightly rubbing them with a pencil eraser while you're at it.
