[Game On]Trickster Online: Light Furry Overtones [56K Beware]

Fleck0Fleck0 Registered User regular
edited May 2008 in MMO Extravaganza
Let's get this out of the way first, this is a thread about Trickster Online, not to bash Korean MMOs in general or compare how they're all the same, take that elsewhere

Trickster_logo.PNG
Trickster Online!

What's the Lowdown?

Let me clear this up, the characters in TO are not animals... The owner of Trickster Island just insists that they dress up as them. So you can take off the animal parts if you want. Plus for a game that seems tailor-made for nutjobs I've never seen any weird sexual crap going on, don't worry this isn't Second Life

TO is pretty much your standard Korean Grindfest though it's not nearly as soul-crushing as similar games Maplestory and Ragnarok online. Plus you level up at a fun rate, if you know what you're doing it's very easy to get to level 50 (when you get your first class change) in under a week of non-hardcore playing

Yeah, yeah I know KORGS (korean online rpgs?), this have all the staples

Yeah it's all there:

-cash shop
-Player run shops
-tons of outfits you can get that don't add stats (and tons that do as well, you can wear both at the same time)
-Large variety of funny lookin' monsters to kill over and over
-Plenty of different classes and skills
-Cartoony spirte based graphics with plenty of interesting areas
-PvP
-Card battle mini game. You can get cards from quests and monsters which can be used to battle other players and satisfy some quests, I haven't really delved into card battle but I know you get EXP for it
-Don't be fooled, they recently cleaned up a ton of dialogue, but the Engrish is still there in full force

What set's it apart?

Mostly TO manages to do what it's competitors do, except it did it well for the most part

-Pet collecting and raising
-A pretty in depth crafting system involving created equipment, adding stats to eq, and refining eq to make items that can boost other equipment even more
-an easy to use quest system and quests that actually gives you a lot of exp (i.e. it doesn't take forever to level up)
-Very active development - Patches come pretty often and there's pretty much always at least one event going on, last event had players searching for items server wide with various rewards based on how many they found. I think they got the max reward and everyone on the server got a pet and $25 worth of myshop points for free
-This is driller boy, he helps me drill... and he has a drill coming out of his ass
drillerxn8.jpg

anything else? any feature that might warrant it's own bolded question?

Of course, Drilling

Some love it, some hate it. Drilling is like mining in your typical fantasy MMO, you choose from a large selection of drills which all have different properties (drill speed, level, drill HP) with many being more or less efficient on different types of soil.

You don't ever really HAVE to drill, though you do get EXP for doing it, so it's not a waste of time, just a bit boring. Though be aware that some of the best drops in the game can only be drilled from high level areas

SOLD! link me up

Here's a list of handy links to help you get started

Trickster Online Main Site - Go here to register and DL the client or click here to go straight to Gamershell for it

Comic Guide! - Learn the ropes through a series of illustrations so saccharine sweet they'll give you diabetes

The MyTrickster Wiki - If you decide to get into TO you'll want to bookmark this, crystal clear info on items, skills and quests. More specifically scroll down the main page to find a list of areas, find "<your area> quests". You'll use this a lot

Atrophy's character guides - Some guy on the forums collected a few handy builds if you're clueless of the direction you want to take your character

Wikipedia's Page - This has some useful info on the stats and classes that could be help ful to newcomers

Official Trickster Forums - The official forum, plenty of helpful people YMMV

Classes

If you thought the comic guide was soo-shweeeet the classes will put you into a coma

Each class comes in 2 flavors (sort of) There are 8 classes based on the 4 main stats (Power - Magic - Sense - Charm) each having a male and female variation. The genders are pretty similar from levels 1-50 you'll share many skills with the opposite gender until you make your first job change, then each class really starts to become unique.

Each individual class has 3 additional class it can change into at various levels (those levels being 50 and 130). THe level 50 job change makes you into a more powerful version of your current class with all-new skills, the level 130 job change gives you the choice of focusing further on your classes specialty or becoming a sort of hybrid that fills some of the gaps regularly handled by opposing class

*note the pictures are all of the second tier classes, because they look cooler than what you start as :P

POWER

Bunny (F)

Buffalo (M)
Boxer.jpg
Bunnies are the Single target DPS masters. The only class that can mabye compete in this area are Dark Dragons

Career - Schoolgirl  Boxer  Champion / Duelist

Warrior.jpg
Buffalo take the AOE route, devastating packs of monster with a series of multi-target attacks

Career - Fighter  Warrior  Gladiator / Mercenary

MAGIC

Sheep (F)

Dragon (M)
Bard.jpg
Magic users, the sheep gets to specialize in two adjacent magic elements from this chart Minstrelspell.png

Career - Librarian  Bard  Soul Master / Witch

Magician.jpg
Dragons can dish out some heavy damage with their spells. Dragons are unique in that they get an extra choice for their second job change, allowing them to focus on dark magic, light magic or a hybrid of the two

Career - Shaman  Magician  Dark Lord / Priest / Wizard

SENSE

Fox (F)

Lion (M)
Explorer.jpg
Foxes primary weapons are a variety of throwing projectile as well as skills that can attack from a distance. Both Lions and Foxes are especially suited to drilling and have skills that make it A LOT less of a hassle. Sense characters also get the highest weight allowance, which you'll be glad you have when you're lugging around all the phat lewt you dug up

Career - Archaeologist  Explorer  Thief Master / Hunter Lord

Inventor.jpg
Lions are the Gunslingers of Trickster, I actually don't know a whole lot about what they do besides use guns and drill really well. I think they may be especially adept at crafting stuff too

Career - Engineer  Inventor  Scientist / Cyber Hunter

CHARM

Cat (F)

Racoon (M)
Model.jpg
Did you really think there wouldn't be cat girls?

Career - Model  Entertainer  Primadonna / Diva

Student_Teacher.jpg
I've never played a Charm character but from what I understand they're meant to be tanks, I forget which is which but one focuses on Defensive tanking while the other is more Offense oriented

Career - Teacher  Card Master  Gambler / Duke

Where should I play

I'm not sure if we have other PAers already in game so make sure you post what server you join or already play in. I prefer to stick with Jewelia  Pearl Island since there's very little lag. I don't know much about the guild system but we can worry about that when people start playing

Jewelia
-
Fleck0 - Flecko
MKR - HoboBandit / Numbername
Snap - Picaso
JNighthawk - JNighthawk
Zanmatto - Misteyy / Flonaze

Reserved possibly for some guides if there's enough interest, there's a lot I didn't cover in the OP

I'm trying to find a guide that'll guide you through the first area, while I look for that here's a huge list of guides to various charatcers

    http://forum.ntreev.net/trickster/forums/post/1735.aspx

Also for anyone around the 25-30 area, to change to your second job at 50 it'll cost 1 million Galders. It's not as bad as it sounds if you know to prepare early

It's a boring night. I'll give 'er a go. I'll be in as JNighthawk (or Lujan, if it was taken or they do that retarded "only one capital letter" crap).

I'm not sure about the capitalization but if you make the character on Pearl Island you should be fine, it's the least populated server and 'having your name taken' is exclusive to each server

Two things about the OP: in the post about the Sheep, you use "Bunny" and in the post about the male Charm, you talk about Sense.

Sorry bout that I copy-pasted the class templates so I wouldn't have to spend forever typing out code, it should be ok now

edit: non related but did I not promise engrish? when Jnighthawk added me as a friend and I checked his location I get "Currently, There is in Gate of Coral Beach"

And now I remember why I quit playing.

Load the patcher, wait 10 minutes. Click. Wait 10 minutes for it to load. Click, put the login info in. Click.

Get to the server select screen and select the server. Click. Wait 10 minutes for it to give me the ever-vague "Disconnected due to abnormal connection." Force it to close because the damned thing hangs, then wait for Gameguard to slither its way out of memory. Try again.

Nice game, but I can't really spend the first half hour I play logging in. I managed to log in earlier and found some freebie cash shop stuff waiting for me (I last logged in in late 2007), but that's as much as I've been able to do with all the disconnects.

Turns out I just had to wait for the server to realize that I was disconnected.

I made a character in this right before the server went down. I'm on the same server as you guys, and my character is named Picaso. The game isn't bad at all. It should pass the time until WAR comes out.

I started a dragon by the name of Numbername on the same server. Sexual ambiguity aside, the class seems like it'll be fun in the higher levels.

I played this game a whole lot when it came out. My god, the engrish.

    THE ENGRISH

This was the description for the Raccoon's spell that increases dodge:

"Increases The waist flexibility to able the raccoon to become one with the dodge, increasing dodge chances by x%."

    LOL

I'd tell you what I am online, but I haven't the slightest idea since it's down right now.

And that's after a pretty large overhaul of most of the text (though they missed some here and there)

Before that it was 10x as hilarious, problem was it was almost impossible to figure out what anything said or did without consulting an outside source

edit: should have mentioned that WED night was maintenance / patch time for a couple hours every week I'll add that to the OP

edit2: oh that WAS ye olde pre-patched engrish, well there are still some tidbits here and there but crap like that is pretty much gone

I think we should if we get the numbers, I don't really know what Guilds do other than provide easy communication. But I'm pretty sure there's some sort of Guild vs. Guild PvP

and PvP is one facet of the game I haven't touched at all, I'm very curious to see how it is
