Playing RSPD with a 360 using an SDTV equals NOT FUN

Really, I don't want to gripe but I'm sorely disappointed here.
So far the game seems great - the combat, the dialogue, and the atmosphere are all fantastic. Particularly the atmosphere. I'm also stoked on the humor, and meticulous inspection of every panel. Kinda reminds me of old Sierra classics, like Space Quest.

HOWEVER, this is worse than Dead Rising for squint factor. I have to sit up and TRY to read every little thing. And for a game with so much dialogue and exploration, it really is a deal breaker. Menus and stats and everything. It's just too hard to read.

Hopefully, this is the kind of thing that can be solved with a downloadable patch, but I kinda doubt it.

If you want to play this game on 360, have an HDTV.
Otherwise, get it for your computer. Simple as that. Wish I knew. :(

Didn't you try the demo first?

Man, I'm in the exact same boat. I was so excited about the game that I didn't want to bother with the demo, but once it started, my first battle consisted of "Hey, it's kind of hard to tell, but I think my HP is in the double digits. Wait, is that my HP? I have no fucking idea, do I? That could be the number of cakes I have for all I know. Why, oh why lord am I stricken with the blurriness?"

And I didn't even have that big of an issue with Dead Rising on my SDTV, for whatever that's worth.

But yeah, beyond that, the game seems wonderful. Only got to play for about 10 minutes so far, though (massive amounts of homework, which I'm clearly making leeway with while on a forum).

Just wish I would have bought it on the PC. I'll probably download the PC demo just to see where everything's supposed to be in the menus.

With the exception of emulated stuff, every single gorram 360 game is guilty of flipping the bird at standard def. I sympathize with the cross you have to bear.

I've played the demo through on the 360, going to play it through on the PC. I'm leaning towards a PC purchase now and a 360 purchase later.

I finished it on my SDTV... it is a 32 inch tv... and i was sitting 6 feet away from it. 10 feet away on the couch and I could barely read everything, so I do hear your complaint... but I made do :)

I played through on my 27". I could decipher most of it, but uncommon words or spellings were impossible to make out. I'm sure I missed a joke or two. The impact on gameplay was only mildly irritating. I had to guess how much HP opponents had throughout the game. I made due by comparing how hard I had hit with how far their HP bar fell.

I think it's time for all of us to accept that games are designed for higher resolution displays, and find a way to make it work within our budgets. I may just drop $40 for the VGA cable before I try for the 3 Achievements (Pack Rat, Immortal, and SBD) I lack.

I'm just barely tolerating it on my 29" SDTV. I sit maybe 4 to 6 feet away, and I can barely read the text most of the time. Also, it's hard to make out a lot of the details in the game itself. During battles, it's pretty difficult to see the details on your party's character models. If I were the OP, I'd change the thread title to "Hothead to STDV users: "Fuck you"" or something.

I'm having the same issue on my 36 inch SDTV. And I'm sitting maybe 6 feet away and I still can't make stuff out. So I might have to give up on this game and future episode until I get an HDTV sometime in the next couple of years.

It would be really awesome if they made a patch that would let you set the game resolution for either HD or SDTV. A lot of games have this options so I don't see this being a big issue to implement at all.

Yeah, I think you're going a little overboard there with the whole "woe is me" thing.

Yeah it's a lil funky for me too, but if you guys go in to the options and bump the zoom up just a couple notches, it actually helps a ton.
