The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
Plot Summary: Near a gray and unnamed city is the Zone, an alien place guarded by barbed wire and soldiers. Over his wife's numerous objections, a man rises in the dead of night: he's a stalker, one of a handful who have the mental gifts (and who risk imprisonment) to lead people into the Zone to the Room, a place where one's secret hopes come true. That night, he takes two people into the Zone: a popular writer who is burned out, cynical, and questioning his genius; and a quiet scientist more concerned about his knapsack than the journey. In the deserted Zone, the approach to the Room must be indirect. As they draw near, the rules seem to change and the stalker faces a crisis.
which is pretty apparent from my sig, I've got a shit load of Tartovsky in my moviestar queue. Still I've only seen this and solaris, which also deserves a watch.
Netflix or Amazon are the only options I think. I just rented it on Netflix.

Oh man
this one time in the game some fucking assholes tricked me out of my money and then shot me off of their little hidey-hole farmhouse
so I waited until night
snuck up to one of the broken windows of the place
and chucked a grenade right into the fucking center of the building
Then I turned on my night vision goggles and went inside as a silent killer, finishing off the dazed and confused survivors who were trying to hide behind shrapnel scarred pillars and fire poorly aimed shots in my general direction
STALKER is a much, much better game if you turn off visible crosshairs. It forces you to use iron sights, which makes you a lot better at pulling off headshots, which is pretty much required to take down enemies quickly.

I fucking love S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
I think I've been there.
That's where the guy's like "Hey I've got a railgun, I'll give it to you for 1k because I like you!" or something, right?
If it is, then I was happy I had a RPG on me, because I just blasted it at those motherfucks and picked off the few that survived.

It makes the game fucking terrifying and a hell of a lot harder.
I have, and I really didn't like it. It wasn't so much the new difficulty as it was the whole new art direction the mod forced on you. Didn't really liked seeing stalker novices wearing bright red and green jackets. I usually play a heavily modded vanilla game: sleeping bag mod, weather overhaul, new textures for various items and surfaces, tweaked gun stats, and hamonica enablers is what I usually use.
EDIT: spoilered, not really a spoiler, but just in case you don't want to be expecting anything
I love how interpretive the movie is. I also identified with the main character so fucking much in his bedroom scene at the end. People are so concerned with what they know and take no time to think about or search for the more unknown, spiritual side of life.

I love how interpretive the movie is.
I know, right at the end it could have been the train that moved the glasses much like at the beginning of the movie, but man that girl is (almost) always shown in colour, just like the zone, which pretty clearly suggests she's imbued with some of the power of that place. But I like that everything is very ambiguous and you just take it your own way. Also that fucking eagle did disappear right?
I fucking love the VSS Vintorez in STALKER. I got so many headshots with it.
I'm more partial to the Groza. No silencer or scope, true, but the killer damage, high fire rare and grenade launcher make it much better IMO.
Yes but I cannot be the silent sniper with a Groza.
Slinking between the shadows, all stealthy like. Drawing a bead on the point-man of a small patrol an then GODDAMN WHERE DID THAT FUCKING BOAR COME FROM fuck fuc kfuck

She's obviously telepathic, yeah, which goes along with believing as Stalker was saying. All the doubt the Scientist and the Writer had was just them refusing to believe in something like Stalker was preaching about, and in actuality there are special things in the world, you just have to look for them. The world is only boring if you choose for it to be that way (like the scientist was saying-- everything is boring, there are no supernatural events etc.). If you want to change your life, you can, you just need to have faith. That's my view on it, anyway, there are probably a lot of people who identify with the Writer, though I saw him more as insecure and afraid of being wrong in his assumptions that he layed down on Stalker at the end of their stay in the Zone. He caught a glimpse of something beyond what he knows in the meat mincer, but soon forgot about it and sided with the scientist.
I'm pretty sure it dissapeared. That was a trippy moment.

there was this other time where me and three other novice stalkers tried to clear the military patrol cutting the Cordon area in half
they had rifles, we had guns
after a long battle in the rain (late afternoon to mid-evening) that involved a lot of sneaking and flanking, it was over
we killed every last one of them, only one of ours was shot down
I was walking around their encampment collecting weapons and food when I heard a painful grunt
I went to check it out, and found the Lieutenant leading the patrol was lying on the ground, concealed behind a large half turned tanker, bleeding to death from a shot in the stomach
I looked at him for a few seconds, just wondering what to do
I then looked up to the sky, and I see that even though there are still clouds in the sky they're beginning to disperse
I took out my silenced gun as I said (in real life, out loud)
"It rained pretty bad today. Clouds all over. You could barely see the sun."
he grunted again as I pointed the gun's muzzle to his temple
"But it looks like it's going to clear up tomorrow. Yeah."
I could barely hear the snip of the silenced gun as I fired it. The thud of the bullet's impact was even less audible. There was no more sound, just the wind, and the night stars peaking through the gray blanket above.
I really need to beat STALKER. I have it but it's unplayable with out Oblivion Lost I think so that's installed too. It's really good, I need to beat it.

My favourite gun was the full length version of the sawnoff that some mod I had put in, it was kinda overpowered and too accurate at range but it was fucking awesome for blasting through hordes of zombies.

Fucking Bloodsuckers.
You can join every faction in the game and actually conquer territory.
It will be glorious.

I know, but I'll be working a lot, and I'm trying to save money for once, so I'm really trying to limit my game-buying.
Netflix or Amazon are the only options I think. I just rented it on Netflix.

EDIT: that's the one, Mori.
I have the Radiation Edition, which is pretty swank, if just because it comes in a cool scarred metal box.

e: oh yeah. also see Solaris (the Tarkovsky Solaris. Surprisingly they didn't totally fucking mangle the new one either, but I prefer the older film.)
