Maybe someone could set up a Steam group for us to join and play Synergy together?
Which of the supplied synergy maps are decent? I tried two, but they both had striders all over the place and little cover, no fun. If anyone knows SP mods that work well with synergy, please tell.
I think that whenever other people see an internal IP (192.168.something) as the server IP in an invite it means that the server has forgotten to forward their ports properly. I think you can also tell if it's working properly if Synergy displays the message "You are playing Synergy on Steam" when entering a map, if it doesn't, you're playing local (which can happen even if you've selected 'Internet' in the create server menu).
Hey guys, I'm about to hop on my temporary server.
[strike]You should be able to use "connect 24.99.164.175:27015", or use my entry in your friends list to join. I make no promises for quality of service, this is simply to test this line, and decide if I need to try a different machine.[/strike]
EDIT: Client timeouts, trying again in a bit.

OK, I'm gonna try again, same info, but this time I'll won't use a spare computer as a dedicated server. See if I'm able to host it on the same box I'm playing on. It'll be up in about five minutes.

It really is fun. I like co-op gaming, and this will have to hold me over through L4D.
I can handle at least six people on my line (as long as you aren't Starbuck), so that's good to know. I expect to be able to handle up to eight, which is a bit big for co-op HL2. We'll see.

So from what I've been reading on the Synergy boards, the Disconnect: Client Timed Out troubles come from VAC being implemented incorrectly. Disabling it should allow for a dedicated server to work.

Jon, how did you get your server to start the HL2 campaign? I only seem to have access to the syn maps.
I started the server, and then used the rcon command "changelevel". However, I was unable to test, due to the client timeouts, whether the dedicated server will correctly progress through the campaign. I'll try it again tonight with VAC turned off.

I just tried disabling VAC on a LAN and it did the trick. Now I just need to find out why the server isn't changing back to Internet when I select it.
I tried doing it, and the server adress it gives is 192.168.1.86:27015
But I'm quite sure that's not right. Also, I don't know whether port 27015 is actually forwarded, and how I should go about it.
Some additional info: I'm running Vista, and my connection right now is via a wireless dongle (my router/modem is broken and only the wireless connections work)

The server doesn't know its external IP address until a client outside the LAN connects to it (or if you connect to it via the outside IP address using the LAN and NAT redirection). Let people know your outside IP and you can test if they can connect.

I'unno, but someone would need to host, or else we need to find a good empty server (which is very improbable).

I should have a small server up and running in a minute or so.
Can trade TF2 items or whatever else you're interested in. PM me.
You need to mount EP1 and then just restart Synergy, everything should work fine and dandy now

Maybe the server's hosting a game that you don't have mounted
It said bad password when I tried to connect.

(and feel free to hit me up on steam if you need help testing it)

Well I used this to figure out how to forward ports. Maybe it'll help?
http://portforward.com/routers.htm
I've done that, but it never actually confirmed that I had forwarded my ports
anyway, as can be seen here and here it's quite a hassle apparently. Wish Jon was here to help
Anyway, I'm gonna try this stuff, see if it works.
EDIT: I can't do this shit if my internet won't work properly. I'll try again when I get my new router (which is soon, hopefully)
