I'm seriously considering purchasing deathmatch for this, but I might wait till my friend buys Half-Life 2 (just so he can play Zombie Panic) and see if I can coerce him to run through multiplayer with some Arcadians.
The videos all really made it look like a great mod, can't wait to play with some of you bums.
Deathmatch is free if you have a NVidia or ATI card though. I learned of this a few days after I purchased HL2DM.

I sent a friend request to him. I wanna play Synergy with people that have mics!
So I've got Synergy copied into my Dedicated Server file, but I don't see how to host an HL2 campaign- all I've got are Synergy maps. A look into my Half-Life 2 folder only confuses me more, because under "maps" all I can find are .manifest and .cache files, not, for example, .bsp files.
How and where do I get HL2 maps if they aren't in my hl2 folder?
Well, I got the Dedicated Server up and running with all the Half-Life 2 maps, but it's still out of reach for anyone not using my computer. My friend can't get in- not even add the IP to his favorites. Is this a problem with my router, should I open up some ports or something? I was hoping to avoid technical problems like this.
EDIT: It seems one of the problems is that my server is being treated like a LAN server, it only appears for ME, under "LAN" in the Servers window. A Synergy website tells me to type

in the console to fix this, but that does absolutely nothing.
I'm going absolutely batshit insane trying to figure out how to host the actual Campaign on LAN, how did you load it?
Well, I've got the Source Dedicated Server tool installed with the entirety of the Synergy mod copied into it's folder (IE, steamapps > username > source dedicated server > synergy) and then I just run the Dedicated Server from my Games window in Steam, though I suppose it's technically under "Tools"
EDIT: And of course, I've got all the maps from Half-Life 2 extracted into the Synergy folder, replacing the generic Synergy maps. I extracted them using GCFScape.
My problem is that, though it's clearly SET to host "internet" games, it's always a LAN server.

I don't know which game you'd chose but i'd guess it would be half life 2 steam server.
Well I tried it, no luck it seems. My server still appears to me only, under the LAN tab. I'll keep checking around the Port Forwarding site though. It helped me host Starcraft (or maybe it was Warcraft) a long time ago.
Alright people, I've decided to bring my server back up, and we'll be starting again from the good ol' Hoverboats. I will allow cheats, but only for all weapons. No shenanigans.
We will be starting at 7:00 (englishtime) if enough people want in.

the sv_lan command worked for us allowing internet players to join, but we're not using a dedicated server, just a host.
