[AoC] Priests - the snake, the light and the bear

Age of Conan - Priests

With the release of Funcom's anticipated MMORPG, I figured the ones that decided to roll the classes from the archetype Priest should get together and discuss all the things that both pleases us and displeases us. A place to discuss feats, skills, spells and the like. Each "race" of people have one type of Priest class they can choose. I shall present to you the three different Priest classes we can choose from, along with a link to the AoCwiki page, where you can read up on spells etc.
Because this is my first time creating a thread. The pictures provided are also supposed to show "end-game" armor of each class. And they are all from Tentonhammer, obviously.

Input on what makes each priest class different will be appreciated.

The priests of the land:

Tempest of Set
aoc-class_portals-armor-tempest_of_set.jpg
These priests wield the awesome destructive might of Set, the snake god of Stygia.

This elder god, ancient when man was young, rewards his most faithful disciples with mighty powers, such as lightning strikes that can tear the tops from mountains or lay waste to entire regions.

These followers of Set are renowned for the obliteration and ruin that follows in their wake, but like other priests they have the power to heal en mass and restore life. As well as a variety of martial weapons, light armor, and shields, they can also wield magical talismans in the form of ancient tomes or the hearts of slain monsters.

AoCWiki

Priest of Mitra
aoc-class_portals-armor-PriestofMitra.jpg
Their god is one of justice, security, and liberty, and their followers are ready to fight to ensure these freedoms and to battle against oppression, tyranny, and villainy.

Proud and devout, the Priests of Mitra ensure that the teachings of their god are protected and passed on to their followers. Their faith allows them to draw on great determination and belief that they cannot help but instill in those around them.Priests of Mitra wield divine power that can aid, heal, and even bring the dead to life.

Priests of Mitra also have the strongest healing powers. They also have the ability to bombard the enemy with holy damage. Their powers to augment those around, heal wounds, and impair enemies make them indispensable to any party exploring Hyboria.

AoCWiki

Bear Shaman

aoc-class_portals-bear_shaman-armor.jpg
Bear shamans are able to equip the heaviest priest armor (medium) and are the sturdiest of all the priests. Capable of mighty combos with their two-handed weapons, and a complement of druidic enchantments, this makes them fearsome enemies in combat.

Since ages long passed, certain gifted individuals – often referred to as wise men or wise women – have held a special, unbreakable bond with the spirits of nature. Within many of the primitive societies found among the hill tribes of Cimmeria, these men and women are held in particularly high regard due to their ability to call upon the powers these spirits possess. For these and many other Cimmerians – a people whose lives are greatly influenced by the creatures of nature that surrounds them – anyone who can tap into these powers are considered to be of great importance and wisdom.

Those of them who decide to leave their tribes and head into the world of great adventure, often call themselves Bear Shamans. With their ability to perform ancient rites and call upon the spirits of the bear, the Bear Shamans are a valued addition to any group of adventurers who wishes to tackle the challenges of Hyborian reality.
AoCWiki

So, there we have it, the priests of Hyboria. What are you waiting for?! Go roll another one! And be sure to post here; let us hear what you think of your priest(s)!

So did my first real instance yesterday (Sanctum) on my bear shaman. It felt really easy to heal (I was basically dps who did a HoT every now and then). I know its the first instance and all but does anyone know if it gets more difficult?

While I haven't healed anywhere except soloing yet I'm having a ball with my Priest of Mitra.

Smite fatalities are the greatest thing ever.

I took Lance of Mitra though and I'm kind of regretting it, I think the other tree would have been the better choice but they removed the Tortage trainer so it'll have to wait till I'm done there.

I love the fatalities we Bear Shamans get with our 2H blunts.

Anybody in the mid 30's to lower 40's I'd highly suggest making multiple runs through Sanctum of the Burning Souls. The first boss drops armor that is awesome for us (Scarclaw) and (I think) the last boss drops a giant mace we can use that is pretty badass.

I'll probably be creating a ToS here in the near future as my third alt. I really wanted to like the PoM, but tried it out on the PvP Beta weekend and hated it. Maybe now I'd like it better, I just thought it was so weak and useless during PvP. Plus the healing seemed almost worthless at 20. Better at higher levels?

Level 41 with a ToS. So far its been fun. As of now, its starting to get harder. Noble district can be a pain, especially as a goon D:

I was mainly thunder build, but opted to try full lightning. It sucked, so I went back to at least have storm crown+regalia and what not and now going into the lightning build.

To future ToS's, I highly recommend getting storm crown and all its goodies as it is a must for mana regen as a ToS.

I am loving the PoM aswell. I was thinking about getting Revivication in the Vengance tree -- anything that makes Element of Life activate itself when people hits you sounds like a great deal.

    You are me!

I did the same. Got bored of my Conq. and rolled a bear shaman. Turns out the bear shaman is my perfect class. Melee dps, but also a very useful healer.

Its a neat combo. Also you feel like a badass.

I was wondering; how does everyone feel about the end-game armor? Ofcourse, it isn't for the life of me that important as the game is still young and we will definatily see better looking armor for all classes -- it's just that the Priest of Mitra doesn't look anything like I imagined it would, end-game .. I was thinking more along the lines of, you know, robes and such.

Level 45 ToS with a lightning build. I can't judge for solo leveling but for being grouped with a necro? Does just fine. I don't have mana problems. We deal with everything aoe style and with the faster cast time on Storm Field I can actually *do* dps, instead of standing there for 3 seconds waiting to get a spell off while my brother murders everything. He also benefits a little bit from Coalesce Ether. He said it was an "ok" amount of mana back, not impressive or anything (some 5-10%, he guesses).

I've stopped short of Set's Brutality though, since I gather Cyclone of Set's not very useful and I can't see a use in duo pve leveling for the whole Visions of Hatred -> Brain Spasms -> Puppets of Set line. I'm putting some points in the general priest tree for now (I already had 5/5 Ether Flow) though I'm not 100% sure on what I'm doing yet.

Thats what I was thinking. Though the upgraded lance heals you triggers the wave as well. Right now I can pretty go through 3 or 4 mobs at a time, if I Lance them at the start, smite, knockback and then one or two smites to finish off the ones alive.

Is the fire wave spell in the other tree any good?

I'm not sure as I haven't gotten it yet; playing on my second priest. I plan to get it though. This blog makes some notes about what feats work and which don't, so read up on it. :)

Playing a Priest of Mitra, almost 50. I like the DPS, but I'm a bit flimsy, and I don't have any flash heals or even direct heals, which proves to be tough. I'm pretty sure that Bear Shaman's are the superior healers, but I enjoy my PoM.

I hate to disappoint you but there's no such thing as a snakeform. Assuming we're talking about Transmutation of Set, last word from the forums is you look exactly the same as you did before you cast it.

Yeah, I searched on Google and everywhere else about this snakeform but found nothing. Ahwell, ToS is still awesome even though I'm still in Tortage. I can't seem to get my guys out of there .. and when they are out of there I roll another priest .

The only ones who get to transform into something else is the HoX and the Necro.

HoX of course, transforming into a demon

The necro will get a "lich" form at later levels, specializing in ranged damage.

So, I'm currently a level 15 ToS. I find myself awfully fragile, and I am really having a much hard time at this point in the game than I had with my PoM. What is the awesome ToS-players secret? How to go about to kill enemies most efficient? Any tips would be greatly recommended. :)

Also, Stygians rock. That is all.

Tempest of Set was childishly easy before they put a 30-second delay on Quicksand. What's that, a non-resistable AOE snare with no cooldown ? What could possibly be wrong with that ?

I'd suggest putting your feat points into Lightning early on, which makes your Lightning Strike hit harder, adds splash damage to Lightning Blast, and adds a possible root to Lightning Blast. That all got me through Tortage with ease.

After I left Tortage I respeced to put points into Storm Crown and its related feats, which is sort of a combination of Lightning Shield & Water Shield. Once I fill that up I'll go back to Lightning again.

I never used quicksand pretty much ever as my TOS because I did better when mobs were on me, and all clumped together. Roll your HoTs before you start attacking, wear light armor (and a shield), and get the Crown feats. You should never be put in danger unless you pull something out of your league.

Good point. If you have the Crown feats then you don't want to use Quicksand because you want the bad guys on top of you, getting hit by your lightning aura. If you've taken the Lightning feats then you want Quicksand to lock them in place while you blast them from a distance.

i usually use quicksand if im dealing with a boss and a caster or two, so i can nuke down the casters before the other guys get to me.

I don't see the point. I roll with a necromancer when I level my ToS and it's generally just quick nuking things down if we both cast our spells. Fights don't really last long enough while leveling right now to have a use for Building the Storm and I really don't have mana issues as it is with my amazing mana regen. Perhaps in other situations, like pvp, I dunno.

On Quicksand. There's not much more use for it with a lightning build that relies on Storm Field for damage, since that too is aoe based around the caster.

Do you wear a shield? As soon as I got a shield and went 1h / shield, I ahve become much more survivable. I also pre-load large pulls and boss with HoTs. Also, you can queue your spells, so as soon as you start casting lIghtning strike, click Quicksand, put it between you and the mob, account for their quick run speed (So close to you then them) and lcick it before lighting strike finishes. As soon as it does, your toon will automatically start casting quicksand as possible. Then cast another lightning strike, QS breaks, but you're already casting you're next Lightning Strike.

If done right I get 2.5 lightning strikes off beofre they even hit me, which means, they are seconds from death. It's mana intesnive, but resting brings it back so quickly, it's not bad at all.
