I can't stop listening to this damn Stormlord song. Track 2 "Neon Karma", it's melodic death with a Moonspell-like deep gothic vocal bridge, my perfect somber summer metal song so far, a little cheesy, but I love it over and over.
So...fuck yea....Seeing at the gates live within the month (remembered after INVICTUS mentioned them) and got a CD recorded, now I get to be lazy for two weeks.
Alright, I trust your guy's opinions on metal so (and sorry if this counts as whoring at all): http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=367168781
This is our first attempt at recording what so ever and it was rife with technical errors that left me kinda phased. Personally I think we could have done alot better and are a much better live band but that's my opinion filled with self degradation so I'd love to hear the good and bad (I'm expecting a lot of the latter). Feel free to be as blatant as you want, I don't like it much so it won't hurt to hear you guys say anything.
I'm slightly distracted by all the spelling issues in the "about" section, but here goes. "March of Odin" has some definite catchiness lurking about, but it's pretty choppy and methinks the tempo should be sped up marginally. Also, it needs more equalization between the instruments and vox - main guitar is a little too loud, not enough oomph on the drums, and the vox seem like some compression might add a bit of beef to them. My least favourite of the full songs.
The Intro does not receive the Meta seal of approval. I'm not sure what you're going for here.
Loki is a pretty rad song. Some of the previous issues are still there, but I'm enjoying the good bass presence. The song flows well and it has its heavy moments.
Follow the Deceiver has a nice vibe, kind of a thrashy old Death feel. Again, production needs work, but the song is quite headbang worthy.
you're totally Fro, aren't you? (you don't have to divulge your secret identity, but I know that's you)

Yea sorry, I left the myspace to our drummer who is less than brilliant and has yet to give me the username/password. And no, I'm Brandon (bass). Well, thanks for the comments, I'm surprised most were aimed at the eq/recording aspect, we were at a small time studio that Drew's family knows personally. They were nice but we didn't really know what we were doing so we just kinda suggested whatever. And intro was originally just some random thing that we ended up using as an intro for Loki (the build up at the start of loki is normally played at the end of intro).
Edit: Actually, this is a compelling reason to stop being lazy as fuck and get the Myspace info and write something that makes slightly more sense
Edit the second: Something I forgot to mention, we speed our songs up a fair amount when we play live, around 20-30 bpm more on Loki and March of Odin

This kind of music usually isn't my thing so I can't give you a fair opinion in comparison to other bands in your genre... but I really liked the scream your singer does in "March of Odin" at 1:11, and I really like the signing in "Follow the Deceiver".
The new Judas Priest double-album is boring. It's like they decided to make a rock opera concept album but take out:
1) everything that makes a rock opera concept album fun.
2) everything that makes a Judas Priest album fun (i.e....the fucking metal).
What remains is a slog-fest of epic boredom, and another in a long line of mediocre albums dating back to Painkiller. In fact, the only songs that are half decent are the title track, which contains a little Painkiller self-plagiarism and a nice solo bridge, and "Visions" which sounds, you guessed it, like another tune from the past.
Wtb another album with comparable quality to Painkiller, without using too many of the same riffs. Kthxbye.
Must purge this obscenity with another spin of the latest Testament album, which serves as a shining example of how to REALLY re-capture the glory.
The new Venom album isn't that bad, it still sounds like Venom to me: just the simpler, thrash Venom that has existed on EVERY Venom album since the first few.
Also, for those interested, new Graveland EP, new Destinity and Kataplexia albums.

Yeah, I dug the songs for the most part, so I'd just like to see them beefed up for recording purposes in the future. I kinda had the feeling you guys played them faster live - that's usually the case anyways - but I'm glad to hear so.

I dug it. I'll echo the statment about working on the recording a little better next time. I sent you guys a friend request from the band I play in. Hope you guys get a chance to check it out as well.
I like it, but it's kinda doomy. Some of the tracks off their last album were similar. Dig it. Better than that Dextronaut shit they released last year to make up for the delay and the demos.
Why the fuck have you lot not held me down and made me listen to Arghoslent before? I'm very disappointed, take a time out and think about what you've done.

oh yeah, somebody was asking about new post-metal. I'm really digging A Storm of Light's new album And We Wept the Black Ocean Within. The vocals are interesting, weary dirges - definitely not the usual uncaptivating bark of the genre. Some of the songs even wander towards a bit of a funeral doom feel. I guess the main bloke behind this project is/was involved with Neurosis and Red Sparowes, but I'm not sure to what extent.
Another cracking new album is Angst Skvadron's Flukt, a trippy black metal expedition into space by the Urgehal darlings.

Part of a five-hour set Om played at the Uganda bar in Jerusalem.
Last release with Hakius.
Yeah. I'm not buying that album, though.
Too bad he dropped out of Shrinebuilder as well. Guess something major happened. :-/
Even more depressing once I remembered that OM was practically Sleep, in terms of progression of sound (It's almost Dopesmoker without the guitar) and personnel.

Yeah. I wish I knew what happened. Supposedly Emil Amos is a pretty talented drummer, so that's kind of encouraging.
Also you probably couldn't buy it unless you went ebay hunting.

You guys should check them out. They are a great new Thrash band that sounds like it came straight out of the 80s. They went to my high school and they are dope.

I have a bit of a habit of just ignoring stuff mentioned in here that isn't mentioned at least 2 or 3 times. Terrible, I know.

As ridiculous as this is, I'm fairly sure Arghoslent was mentioned more than 2 or 3 times.
The debut album from France's Aosoth is a total jackhammer to the teeth. Cruel, hostile fucking black metal. Back to the basics with devastating results! How is your day going? Not so good when something like this pitch black, fzoul monstrosity can exist in the world!

Don't do this. If you're going for one gimmick-y thing, stick with it as much as possible (imo).
