When You Are Engulfed In David Sedaris

RedeemerRedeemer Registered User regular
edited July 2008 in Social Entropy++
David Sedaris released his latest collection of comedic essays today!

whenyouareengulfedinflaif5.jpg

I was worried because he said his next book would be a bunch of animal fables, and like, who the hell would want to read that? I just want to hear about your alcoholic mother more, kthx

Thankfully that's exactly what this book is

Any David Sedaris fans here? A bunch of you are gay so I figured there might be a few

I enjoyed Me Talk Pretty One Day and Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim despite being heterosexual.

Unfortunately I don't remember much from the latter.

At the time, right? The ink they use in the books contains homosexuality

Have you seen her appearances on the Late Show?

They're ALWAYS awesome because she's either subtly making fun of Letterman's live-in girlfriend or implying that he and Paul have a gay relationship

    So awesome

I read an interview with him where he said he begged Ira Glass to let him read that story on This American Life but Ira told him it was too low brow... but that totally would have made an awesome segment on TAL

My favourite story is the one about his sociopathic french teacher

I liked Me Talk Pretty One Day.

Last night I had a dream that Paul Shaffer died. Also there was a nuclear holocaust. I think the two were unrelated.

Ben was listening to This American Life on the drive home to South Dakota this Christmas and there was thing about him being an elf for a mall Santa and some kid saying he looked stupid and him saying "At least I get paid to look stupid instead of giving it away for free like you."

I was almost asleep when I heard that part, and goddamn I started laughing so hard at that line.

Weird, I just got both "Me Talk Pretty One Day" and "Corduroy and Denim" on audiobook (I've read them both, but he's such a great reader, especially the live recordings).

One of my favorite parts might be his description of his brother trying to make the Alphabet caterpillar baby toy spell out swear words. The hilarity is multiplied when I remember the PA podcast where Gabe talks about the exact same toy and trying to get it to do the same thing - down to the same swear words.

    Great minds.
