I've just been talking to Shirley about tagging along with her to Selfridges. I found out they have a Krispy Kreme doughnut shop there, and they sell fresh hot doughnuts pretty much all day. I'm going to buy 12 and then eat them in one sitting.
I thought I'd let you all know just in case anyone wants to come with me and attempt to do the same. They're delicious, I assure you.

Sounds yummy. I'm going to be sorting more stuff out for this event over the coming weekend so keep your eyes peeled on this thread.
I've tried to find out off the web site, but it doesn't say. I'll check out in the shop tomorrow. So I'm up for a trip to KK, Selfridges stays open til 8:00 pm, so we've got plenty of time to snack there.
My only slight hiccup is that I've just realised I'm at a wedding first, so I'm going to come a bit later than Lewie, but I will be there - I'll get to Brum late afternoon, and buy donuts for peeps! I don't think I can eat 12, Centipeed, but then I'm not a man, even though I've been awarded an honoury neck beard!

Don't worry about it. People who are not men aren't expected to eat 12 doughnuts in one sitting. It's too hardcore. I'm both disappointed and disgusted at LewieP's lack of fortitude in the face of such a challenge, though.
I'm worried that these doughnuts are going to be so expensive that my mind will be torn between saving money and finally getting to eat 12 of them in a row. I suspect the latter will win out in the end. It'd be great if you could find out the price.
Since when did the Pre-PAX '08 meet up become an eating competition? Sheesh.
I know that this whole shebang is your baby, so I'll try not to mess it up for you too much. But Krispy Kremes fuck my shit up, so it's not like I can ignore the fact that they are sold in Birmingham. I'll stop challenging people.
There is a drive-thru KK just down the road from me. Not only do you get to eat 10x your daily recommendation of sugar for under a tenner but you don't even have to leave your car for it.

Can anyone meet me at the station? I've never been to Birmingham before and I'm likely to get horribly lost and eaten by brummies/chavs/a small grue.
Depends what day you're going up. I'll be arriving on the Friday, so I'm happy to meet you if no-one else is around/bothered.
I think the confirmed people should start sharing mobile phone numbers privately so that we can get in touch with one-another if things start going awry.

I'm sorry for not attending to this thread as I should have been but I've been distracted with getting VThornheart's to PAX via Bioware. Once I've completed this task I should unlock an 'Achievement' and continue with organising this event. Please bear with me.
Hey, I've seen the awesomeness of what you're doing for VT, it rocks mightily! You will actually unlock 3 achievements, 1 flying skill, an invisibility cloak and as many KK donuts you can eat!

OK I've contacted Omega Sektor and will be hearing from them later today about how this thing is going to pan out. At the very least I'm looking to get a viewing room for the PAX '07 DVD. Watch this thread for more details.

I've booked my tickets just now. Getting them in the mail.
I'm now in contact with the management at Omega Sektor who have offered the bar to be booked out for us at a cost of £10 per person. This I've kind of rejected as I can't really gather the fees up from everyone prior to making the booking. All I'm asking for now is that we pay the standard entry fee at the door then get somewhere to watch the keynote from PAX '07 some time in the afternoon. If however you folks are willing to pay £10 per head then we can do that but I need the money up front before I can do that.
Post your responses here folks.

I probably couldn't afford that. I only have about £50 - £60 (budgeted) for the whole day.

Not that I don't appreciate someone slogging away behind enemy lines in order to better the day for us. I understand this is your "project", as it were, and it's awesome that you're trying to vary the day.
Is it possible, however, to ensure that all the extras we can take part in ARE optional? Besides the fact that none of us will likely have a problem playing video games all day, since that's probably what most of us are capable of anyway, it could be that people just want to chill out instead of having an itinerary to stick to. I for one am wandering off to Selfridges at some point in the day, and others might have similar aspirations.
I can just see a potential friction caused by putting any restrictions on the day, although that's not to say they'll be considered as such. Definitely don't assume that I'm trying to cast a negative light on your efforts, because it's not the case.
I think I'll be arriving late afternoon cos of this wedding - I've been roped into doing flowers for the reception, but will be leaving asap to get to Brum. I think I'm out on the bar front, cos i can't guarantee when I'll be there, sorry, but I will be there, and buying donuts at Selfridges for at least me and Centipeed, plus whoever else would like to join us - Selfridges is open til 8:oo pm.

I agree 100% with this sentiment. To be honest all I really want this to be is a face to face meet with people who are going to PAX this year who happen to be from the UK. By doing this we'd have some familiar faces to bump into at the event itself which is always a good thing.
The PAX 07 DVD idea was something I thought could break the ice a bit as we could sit and watch it and chat about it as we do so. I have no intention of running any competitions or tournaments or anything like that.
If however you'd rather nothing was done with regards to the DVD then I'll abandon the idea completely and we'll just play some games, have some lunch, play some more games then go to the nearest pub. I'm perfectly fine with that.

I've seen mentions of this up until now, but I want to say that you're NOT buying me doughnuts. When I go on some mission to eat an extraordinary amount of something, making someone else pay for it is a no-no, since I'm getting so much and that's serious money out of their pocket. I don't want you spending £8 on me just for doughnuts :S

Definitely don't take my possibly anomalous opinion as any kind of majority ruling, because everyone else might want to watch the DVD. I've never really had a problem with ice-breaking before, so a day full of games just suits me fine, as opposed to activities that we can use to get to know each other better.
Edit: Again, this is a fantastic top of the page post. I'm being serious.
Hey, I'm paying for donuts. For whoever wants them. I'm not a student, I'm a mummy, so I get to buy treats for students (and the awesomeness that is Mr Kropotkin.)

I'll ask once again, since we're closer to the day: Is anyone arriving on the Friday? And do you want to meet up with me?
We can chill at my hostel. I suspect most of you live closer and are arriving on the day though?
I'm also leaving on the Sunday, so if anyone is staying on for longer, we can hang out then as well. Not that I'm some kind of friend-starved loser. Just in case you had some free time.

I'm arriving on the saturday morning, although I think my return ticket might be good for sunday. I'd be happy to just hang out with you, if I can. :P
Also, I call cinnamon on the donuts, I freakin' love those.

They opened a 24/7 Krispy Kreme near us, and it is epic.
You bastard
If you come with me, you have to buy 12 doughnuts and then eat them all in one sitting, or you're not a man.
Edit: Can you recall how much they charge for Krispy Kremes?
I'm not eating 12 in one sitting.
Enough that I think it's really expensive, not so much that I don't buy them.
I always leave some leftovers so I can get a stew on afterwards though.

Ok, the price is fine. Those nutritional facts make me wary, but I'm sure I've eaten worse.
