Hey there!
I am interested in a starting a small jazz ensemble, for the purpose of playing at next years PAX. We will cover any and all video game songs requested to us. It will be a small, mobile ensemble, able to move about the event and play anywhere, anytime, especially for people in lines. I play Drums/keyboard and already have a trombone player on board. We live in the LA area, so anyone interested would have to be around there for practices. We're looking for people who have some jazz experience and can sight read music (there will be too many tunes to memorize them all).
We're open to adding any type of instrument, especially tuba, trumpet, and bass (stand up or electric). Let us know a bit about yourself and what you play at this e-mail address.

We're excited to start this project and hope to hear from all interested!

Did you clear this with PA (Khoo) first?

Other than that, it sounds awesome. Never heard videogame jazz music before.

We figured it would be best to actually have the ensemble and be able to perform before we started contacting PAX officials and trying to book the gig. This year's PAX will be an oppourtunity to test the waters and ask about it. For now we just want to get the people together.

I have no musical talent, but if you get this gig off the ground and cleared with the powers that be then best of luck to you!

Interesting. I'd help out if you were in the Seattle area. Granted I haven't touched my sax in a while, I think I'd be able to contribute a bit. I'm definitely interested to see how you guys interpret the music!

There is a sax player that frequents Sakura con and other northwest/coast cons. He plays all of the major themes of video games and animes as he wanders around the con and has been a part of the masqurade ball band in past years. I don't know who he is, so I can't really help you, but I'm sure he can be found on the Sakura con forums. It sounds like he might be a good person to team up with or have helpful info on how to make a mobile band work at a convention.

    best of luck!

Well I don't live in LA, i Live in seattle.

I play bass for the Number 5 high School Jazz Band in the Nation, South Whidbey High School. WE placed fifth in the Essentially Ellington Competition in NYC. I can site ride, solo, play from fake books, make bass lines, funk, walking, blues, classical. So let me know whats up, I am sure that I could pull it together if you guys came a little early next year and sent me music in advance.
