My XBOX 360 has Red Ringed

So, I'm looking for the wisdom of the H/A community. My just 360 red ringed on me, I called customer service and they said to send it to them and that it would be free.

Has anyone here had to do this before and if so what were your experiences like? Do you think the system was better after you got it back? Was it really 2 or 3 weeks return time for the service?

Lastly, is there anything else I should know about having them service the machine?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I managed to get my system sent out and returned within one week.

My problem, of course, was completely fixed when I got my console back, and as long as you follow the instructions you are given (clearly printed and included with the shipping container) your console should come back to you just as you sent it away, but working.

They'll give you a month subscription to LIVE for your trouble, as well, which is a nice way ofsaying "sorry you couldn't play your console for a few weeks".

Everyone I know that's done this, to include the hosts on the podcast I listen to, have generally had a good experience with it.

    Thanks for the information guys.

I had a pretty good experience with the girl I talked to about getting the machine serviced, she was really helpful.

I was freindly to the poor dude in Bangledesh that got my call. I packed my box and sent it off using the emailed label rather than waiting for a coffin and recieved my repaired/new unit in twelve days from the date of failure. The replacement has worked without flaw since I got it back. Pretty good considering my first gen box(lasted over two years) had a lot of disk read/dirty disc errors.

I've done a little more research along with listening to you guys. I've read very few bad things about it. A lot of people seem to think they are getting a better Xbox back, one that probably won't fail.

Of course I've had mine for right on two years now and definitely did not not see it coming. Just went to turn it on one day and wham, I was like whoa wait a second... I had no indication that anything might have been wrong.

I've had to do this twice now. First time it took about a week, second time it was back within 1 day (literally the day after I mailed it, they hadn't even received it yet according to my tracking number.) And I'd say its more or less the same, I think they try to keep you with the same model (ie, same mother board and all) as you had before, despite claiming to upgrade everything to the newest available.

Yes, it really was 2-3 weeks for me. It was painless other than the lacking my 360 for 2-3 weeks part. UPS dropped the box off at the door, then I had them come pick it up (again from my front door). 2-3 weeks later, fresh 360 arrives.

So far haven't had another RROD, been a few months. But I haven't played it really heavily since.

Just don't send them your hard drive (which their instructions are pretty good about reminding you)

otherwise just keep in mind that if your dlc/arcade games don't work offline when you get it back you have to call them again and get them to fix it

Oh I haven't done that yet, thanks for reminding me.

Take your faceplate off, too. I did, and got a funky blue one back.
