What to do with a bunch of junk CDs?

Since computers have had "CD-Rom" drives, I've been saving CDs... never threw one out. AOL disk, Earthlink, bad CD-R burns, etc.

So, now I have a few hundred junk CDs. Anything cool I can do with them beside throwing them away?

Have you tossed one into a microwave for like 20 secs out of boredom yet? I did that once when I was 16 and that was a fun way to get a minute of excitement.

Note: Too long and it will set fire to your microwave, possibly your house. It will also stink up the entire joint.

Go into a long hallway or a grassy field and play CD frisbee. Hilariously entertaining.

Edit: Bonus points for playing CD frisbee in your dorm at college. No, I didn't do that, I don't know what you're talking about!

    Decorative wall hangings.

They cast a shadow like a sundial in the morning light. It was half past 10.

I second the decorative wall hangings. When I was in college a few girls in the suite downstairs made a door sized curtain out of cds. It was the most amazingly sparkly thing I've ever seen.

    They make pretty decent coasters.

As a warning (or possibly goal, depending on how much you enjoy cleaning little shards of plastic off the ground), if you chuck them very hard at a wall, and they hit at the right angle, they'll shatter very very nicely

Depending on where you live, there might be a service that will actually recycle these for you. Try googling "e-waste recycling" or something like that for your area.

I don't want to be a shill, so I will just say there is a company in the SF Bay Area, for instance, that will do CDs for free. PM me if you want their info.

I bet if you had a big enough wall, that'd be one huge ass fish.

Just string them together with fishing line?

That sounds like a good idea! :) I'll super glue two together (shiny side out, top/front inwards) so that they are shiny on both sides.

    Brilliant!

Last for a long time and a lot less expensive than buying coasters.

I quite like the idea of rasterbating an image and then painting the CDs the corresponding shades of grey, then putting them somewhere.

Although it'd have to be outside or something.
