Blood Bowl: more like League of Mutants. Footballing. Craft.

All we've got to go on is this youtube video, but I'm pretty damn happy. The premise? Take football. Now add in big monsters, decapitations and explosions. That's Blood Bowl.

Yeah, it sounds a hell of a lot like Mutant League Football, but considering 1) MLF is probably never ever coming back, and 2) it was awesome, I'll take it.

Apparently it's coming out at the end of the year for PC, Xbox, PSP and DS.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5wyNZRZ308&e

Oh, and the game's site is here: http://www.bloodbowl-game.com/

It's also set in the World of Warcr... I mean, Warhammer universe.

To me, it looks like Warhammer meets football, due to the way the creatures look. But hell, I love MLF so much, that I would take anything that gives the same level of fun. I lost years of my life to that game and Mutant League Hockey.

That's what Blood Bowl is. It's an old table top game set in the Warhammer universe about football.

Look at the gamesworkshop logo at the start of the youtube video. This could be awesome.

That's what Blood Bowl is, good sir.
It could be awesome as long as it isn't like Chaos League--it's going to be like Chaos League, isn't it?

Actually, that's the first thing that popped into my head when I saw Games Workshop anyway :). I haven't done any reading about this game, so it seems pretty cool to me.

I never played it, what was wrong with chaos league? Because this is being made by the same people, GW decided instead of suing them for making a game that ripped off BB they'd sell them the licence instead.

The thing which makes this amazing is that it will be turn-based.

Because they actually have the guts to bring Blood Bowl into a video game instead of making some stupid RTS like football simulation with orcs and elves.

Turn-based is an option, or real-time if you like,

    Now that's good thinking.

If they're doing it Chaos League style you'll have a choice. Chaos League can be either Turn based, Real-time with pause at regular intervals about about 20 seconds to issue new commands (best way to do it, because tactics really comes into it and you can fake out your opponent and do lots of tricky shit) or complete real time.

I'm pretty stoked for this but I'm a games workshop fan boy (that can't practically play the TT games anymore), and I used to play the TT version of Blood Bowl..

I've never seen TT games so tense as blood bowl.. people would get really pissed over this game and near fist fights erupting at points

now to see if Undead are as OP as they used to be in tabletop.

Yes. And to answer your question, the games were made by EA and they didn't want to do anything to dilute their precious Madden.

LOTS of people don't know what Warhammer is, or aren't familiar enough with it to realize that it's full of big green orcs.

I've always been a game nerd, and I didn't really learn what Warhammer truly was until after I started playing WoW.

Table-top games are a whole nother world. A complicated world, where advanced calculations which should only be made by computers are made by mortal men, giving rise to "house rules" and "homocide". This game, however, will be super awesome. There's almost no way it won't be.

Sidenote: I knew about Warhammer/40k before I ever heard about Mutant League. I think there should be some sort of venn diagram for tabletop and computer gamers.

It's going to be awesome because the turn based option has identical rules to the tabletop game, which means the very least you get to play the awesome tabletop game without the hassle of assembling and painting models as well as being able to play it over the internet.

I'd buy it for that alone.

Exactly. I only wish they'd do that for all the good table-top games. Cool as they seem, I don't really care about model-painting. I really wish there was a good turn-based Mechwarrior, for instance.

That's the Eurogamer preview I was on about, now to find the important information..
The solution turns out to be a choice of two game modes: the original turn-based play, or a more streamlined real-time version. Both retain the same dice rolls and rule structure of the original game, but real-time shoves all that out of sight, and brings match durations down to about five minutes.

hahaha so true.. don't forget all the templates and "block dice" in this game.

this game is the king of one dice roll can really screw you, especially in season play when you have a character you raised that is awesome and he gets assassinated on the field

my blood pressure rises just thinking about playing this game again..

also there is a java based version of this game that already exists but I don't know if that falls under talking about emulation or whatever (emulation of a TT game!!)
