Tony Snow was a highly intelligent man whom many of our generation saw as the mouthpiece of the Bush Administration. But as he passes from this life to the next, let us remember him as a man of intelligence who got to do a lot more than any of us ever would consider of doing
working in the white house and battling cancer a lot longer than anyone thought and yet looking quite attractive
and who made a lot more money than some people on these boards ever will.

My favorite memory of him is watching him give a speech on some inane topic (genocide this and famine that) in the white house and suddenly noticing the eyeball jellies on his podium. His reaction was amusing and entertaining.

The man liked baseball and loved his family and gave courage to those who would battle cancer and their families would would battle it as well.

Good bye, Tony.

You fought a good fight.

Former White House press secretary Tony Snow -- who once told reporters "I'm a very lucky guy" -- died at the age of 53 early Saturday after a second battle with cancer.

Something about the way this is written comes off as amazingly stupid. Like, they're reaching really hard for a comment from him.

If a person supports an opposing ideology it is because they are evil and horrible and thus you should rejoice in their early and untimely demise. However, if they support your political platform you are to forgive them all trespasses regardless of degree for their intention is surely always in the right place.

Does being the WH spokesperson automatically make you a member of whichever party is in power? Honest question.

It's not like you're a non-partisan government employee who just waits around between administrations. Each administration hires one, usually (at least initially) the person who was their national spokesperson during the campaign.

Also, Butters, I think it takes more than opposing viewpoints to get people on here to be totally callous. Remember how happy everyone was when Falwell and (just recently) Helms died? Because they were both terrible awful bigots who used their power to promote and institutionalize discrimination and hatred as much as they could. This makes them reprehensible human beings pretty much automatically.

Snow, while he didn't go so far, blatantly and repeatedly lied, in a doublespeak manner that was typical of the Bush administration. I think this was one of the things that has been most damaging about Bush -- more than disregard for truth and facts, but an active, aggressive attempt to hide or destroy facts when they were negative to the administration. Lying and manipulation of the public is hardly new in politics, but they took it to an entirely new level. Arguably, they were even more destructive than Nixon. Nixon hid his own misdeeds, but the Bush administration not only hid their own doings, but did all in their power to suppress, distort, or outright deny open and evidenced facts.

Any distortion of the truth that severe and that endemic is, in my opinion, a terrible crime against the country.

I'm not dancing on Tony's grave or anything -- dude was too young and had a family, but I still think you're misunderstanding where some of the anger here is coming from

I don't think I am. I think he's guilty of probably all the same things any WH press secretary would be. He's not a policy maker, he's paid to give the opinion of the administration and that's going to involve whatever spin is required to do so.

Also, I can't help but think of Ted Kennedy when see some people's reaction.

When Ted Kennedy was undergoing surgery for brain cancer, I don't know of a single person who didn't pity that man, and I live in a family of Republicans. I even prayed for him while he was undergoing surgery. I may not agree with much that that man thinks, but I can't imagine anyone that deserves to have to suffer that.

And here we have a younger man who has just died from a similar disease, and all you poor bastards can think about is his politicality. I mourn the loss of any life, and the fact that you guys are so incredibly heartless... why don't you guys think about someone other than yourselves? I know that must be difficult for you, but for the sake of his family and children please try.

He claims he wants to clean up the environment and reduce oil dependence, but put wind farms 90 miles off the New England coast? Fuck that. That might lower his property value.
