I wanted to run an idea by you guys.
Obviously there are going to be alot of thing happenings in all the hotels around the area once PAX kicks into full gear. I was thinking we should create some method of easily talking to eachother.

My fullon nerd solution, create a wireless network dedicated for an IRC chatroom (maybe something like a shoutbox instead, im thinking about it), wireless console lanning, etc. I have the hardware (router and a netstix embedded linux computer) and I thought it would be a neat way to hook up with other people in the hotel and share info about events in town.

What do you guys think?
Also, I am weary of repeating the hotels wireless internet on this... but if people think i can get away with it, I'll do it (just need to get $30 more... yay)

Edit: Oh, a name... we need a name.

I'M HALPING!

    1. With a strong enough antenna, you can pick up free wifi somewhere in downtown Seattle. I had a 9dbi mag-mount wireless I used on the CCST, and I managed to find some free internet in range of my hotel window (some 11 stories high).

    2. You should totally do a teamspeak server and have a couple channels dedicated to music piping

    3. No I'm not staying at the Homewood Suites

    4. Name yourselves the Homeboys

I have a WRT54G router running DDwrt. I can boost the signal capt'n! I dont know how well she will hold though.

Teamspeak... Possibility. If I run out of power (the little device i have only has 400mhz on its side) I could use my laptop...

Homeboys eh? better than my idea for PAXNET

Also, would be neat if we could get repeaters in the mix and get the whole city wireless'd :) (IMPOSSIBLE DREAMS ARE TASTY :D)

I was thinking that we should have some of the bands that are playing PAX at least, because I have Anamanaguchi and they might have another album out at that time, but I'd rather know things people want first before I take over the music covertly and start playing Fiery Furnaces...

Homewood has free internet. So why would we need to set up a wireless solution? We could just run the teamspeak server off someones lappy and spread the IP number in this forum once they get to their room.

You might be interested in this:

    http://seattlewireless.net/

It's a community-built free wireless network. You might be able to get signal in various places.
