This may be a stupid question, but what with all of the fearmongering in the media and such I figure I should ask: Are backpacks allowed at PAX? I hope to bring a camera and a DS, but not if I have to stuff 'em in my pockets.

Some areas they won't allow them in (due to theft in Pax 04) such as the tourney areas, but there is a handy coat check to stash your stuff if you need to. (Boat check, goat check, stoat check...)
I think the tourney area was the only place without bags. You could even bring them to byoc, but they checked em when you left. I thought it was a good setup. Plus, I highly doubt there would have been room for people with backpacks during the SSBM tourney. There was barely room for the people.
No, there were a couple people with bags in the SSBM tourney. They were yelled at.
But at least the Enforcers were cool about the bag thing. I went into the Double Dash tourney room to cheer on a friend. The Enforcer there understood that it was an innocnet mistake when I brought my bag in.

If that wasn't enough to give you a concrete answer, then it is yes, bags are allowed - assuming you don't bring one of those exploding Dells. :P
