Tron 2

edited July 2008 in Debate and/or Discourse
The sequel to the most greatest of all movies in all of times.
http://gizmodo.com/5029479/tron-2-trailer-video-makes-pants-wet-worldwide
It's been what, 20 years?

The director of the trailer was Joseph Kosinski and it's believed that he's the director for the actual movie.
The script is being written by two of the Lost writers.
Jeff Bridges is confirmed.
The film is actually called TR2N.

How many songs did Journey do for Tron anyway?

I hope we can expect a Bruce Boxleitner cameo of some sort

At least Jeff Bridges is in, that's enough to get me onboard

Wikipedia says they did two songs, so I guess it's not like Queen and Flash Gordon.

and I edited to reflect that. I'm also interested what journey's part was, would be neat if the current incarnation did something but I think I'm hoping for too much retrospective fanservice

In the second DVD release, Jeff Bridges will be replaced by a CGI Jar Jar Binks as that was the original vision he had for the movie.
And the inevitable repeat of the scene with the water that gets them high will instead have Hayden Christensen's face staring at them from beneath the water and smiling.

A cleaned up and stabilized version of the trailer is up here. You can tell what's going on in it much better.

It certainly looks promising, and the fact that Bridges is in it really gives me hope. It really wouldn't be TRON without him. The younger version of him as the yellow program (Clu?) is extremely impressive. Looks and sounds just like they filmed him 20 years ago for that one, at least as far as you can tell with the low quality bootleg.

Actually, in the original film, once the cycles got off the actual game grid they stopped doing the "instant turn" thing and made more natural curved motions.

Since we don't know the exact situation in the trailer, I think it's a safe bet to assume that they weren't on a standard lightcycle grid, where the typical rules would apply.

To be a big geek about it, while that's true, they also didn't have the laser trails off the grid. :D

That being said, fuck the little details. That was fucking awesome.

I knew as soon as I posted that someone would mention the trails disappearing, lol. I had thought about mentioning them, but it didn't seem necessary. Like I said, they're probably just not on a typical game grid of the type we've seen before, so who knows what the rules are in the particular region they're riding around in?

And yeah, I agree with you totally, it was really fucking awesome, and I really hope we get an official release of this trailer sometime fairly soon. I'd love to get a chance to get a good look at how well they pulled off the young Bridges as the program, because in the crappy version it really did look just about perfect, as far as I could tell.

If they follow this exact style for the movie itself, I think at least visually it will be great. I just hope they have an equally fun and interesting story to go along with the look.

It seems like all of that maneuvering would still register as instantly turning from the user's point of view.

The lightcycles seemed slower than I remember.

But then I'm not going to go 'omg they don't turn instantly they fucked upz Tr0n!!!11' yet.

Then again considering the batting average for sequels to old 80s movies, it could very well suck balls.

Why are they making a sequel when the first one wasn't very successful?

    Edit:

    Easy solution:

Since, according to Lucas, the original Star Wars trilogy in its non-remastered form doesn't exist anymore. You take all the awards they won back then and retroactively give them to the Tron folks

It was neat, but I really don't think I would want to see it as the sequel. I didn't really care for a lot of the story aspects, even if I loved the gameplay itself. On the hardest setting, I would just sit and play that opening tutorial disc combat for hours.

As a side note for some reason, I have never been able to see the first movie from start to finish. I always fall asleep. I don't think I could put it in the category of boring, it's probably the light suits that they're wearing that do something to my brain telling it it's nap time or something.

Fun fact: The glow from the light suits is actually all painted on, frame, by frame, by frame. You can see at times they kind of dim, probably hinting towards someone dying from having to paint so much and someone else taking his place.

I recently watched Tron again a few months ago. It was a favorite of mine in the 80s, but I didn't enjoy it as much now. It was also a lot shorter than I remember. Still a classic.

I really hope they're not actually calling this Tr2n. I'll look forward to it, regardless.
