The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
The angry/offended women that (quite loudly, in fact) came up behind me and commented while I was playing P.N.03 in the console freeplay, who then went on to play DoA4 and Rumble Roses XX on the nearby 360s.
My favorite part would have to have been the tourneys
i got kicked out relatively early in the smash tourney by the guys who ended up getting third but it was no biggy. It was fun to watch and my friend's team actually ended up getting second.
the mario kart DD tourney was probably the most fun I've had playing a video game in ages. I had never even tried DD in a lan setting before and it was a total hilarious blast. I convinced two of my friends who had NEVER played mario kart before, ever, to enter the tourney as the ill fated "sodomizers." They just barely missed winning their pool My team got knocked out in the semi-finals but the entire ordeal was just entertaining as all fuck. My friends and I found another team, both members who had never played DD either, and cheered them on during their matches as well. All in all, a total blast.
the concerts were also very very rad though I do agree at a general disdain for the lack of dancing. I wish they had allowed head banging, the NESkimos pretty much were made for the occasion.
my only gripes are that there wasn't as much free stuff as I expected, nintendo's booth was a letdown, and the freeplay lines were way too long.
overall an excellent experience though and i'll definitely be returning next year.
War 3 tourney. Good players, lots of fun, hope to try again next year.
PC Freeplay. HL2 Deathmatch is hot. 'nuff said.
Bothering Hicks at the awards stand: Excellent. Unfortunately I pansied out and didn't carry through any diabolical plans, but coming up with ways to mess with a handful of army recruits trapped in a sea of hardcore gamers was entertaining.
Randomly meeting two guys through Munchkin at the Tabletop area, then staying up all night playing D&D (which mostly consisted of gamer humor and stories).
The cute waitress at the noodle place :winky:
Having a guitar-hero-run-in-with-destiny and trying (and failing, unfortunately) to come to the aid of an Omeganaut.
Talking to Enforcers about anything from sleep deprevation to nasty Street Fighter combos which are probably banned from any tournament holding players good enough to use them.
Bad:
Tourneys starting late. Always.
Halo 2 tourney. "Lawl, owned, owned so hard, learn 2 play, oneshot, you suck!" not to mention a three hour wait for one game (luckily against cool people) and some serious odor issues from the tournament particpants. First and last Halo 2 tourney I will ever attend.
Spending more time waiting in line for console play than actually playing consoles.
Bawls, WRU?
Couldn't find the forumers I was hoping to meet
Food poisoning from Burger King.
Final Omegathon round wasn't nearly as impressive as last year's, and the wait in line was silly.
Having three of my friends wimp out mid-day Saturday.
Still good times, can't wait to see what next year will bring.
Loved:
-Exhiliration of first time at PAX, first time meeting Gabe and Tycho. Kinda didn't know how to react to seeing them in person, but they were so goddamned cool.
-The guy who pitched the calculator t-shirt idea to Tycho. You fucking rock, man.
-Guitar Hero! Came there never having played it, left clutching the pre-order card for GH II.
-Free stuffs, awesome exhibition hall
-How awesome the devs and PR people were*, and how they appreciated people coming to check out their stuff.
* - exception below
-No dickery or asshole-ness experienced from any attendee I met/talked to! I lurk on here so noone from forums that I recognize knew me, but talked to me nevertheless.
-All the DS people!
-Console freeplay
-Getting there at 6am Saturday and hanging out with damn cool people all morning. Really, anytime I stood in line.
Didn't love:
-Some lines seemed unnecessary
Regret:
-Forgetting to play Steel Batallion...always next year.
-Forgetting to have purchased a 3-day pass (no Sunday :P)
-Not hooking up with a group of people and going to lunch/dinner, was just me and my friend. I wanted to make some PAX friends People were approachable, just never got the chance, really.
-Not buying more PAX swag (Only got 1 poster and 1 book)
Wanted to kick in the balls:
The PR guys at the Fury booth. Dear God.
Spending more time waiting in line for console play than actually playing consoles.
I don't know when you went to play consoles but my play time was at least double my wait time. I tried to do it when the line wasn't too big, and it usually went surprisingly fast. Then again, the only game I played was Guitar Hero...

You were in the MKDD tourney? I'd have liked to say Hi to you. I was the Asian girl who kept picking fights with that big Enforcer guy trying to hit on me.

I waited in line for about 30 seconds, and I played Oblivion for over an hour.
PROTIP: Sunday is the best day for Console Freeplay, especially during the Guitar Hero tourney.

The main two highlights for me were chilling with the other Enforcers and the fact that on on my last shift today I spent most of it bombing around the 4th floor on my best friend's skateboard because everybody was downstairs at the Omegathon.
Everything!
Okay no that's the lame answer, actually the Ball (which I plan on basing a religion on), and everyone there attendees, guests, and hosts.
I could go on listing evreything awesome that happened but I'll stop with the short answer

On the first day, Ball created awesome.
On the second day, Ball sat on the couch playing Tetris and hired God to make everything else.
On the third day, Ball stepped in and created Chuck Norris, to keep God in line.
-The UT2004 Tournament. Some of you guys are fucking SCARY, and I am amazed and honored to have taken 4th place in that thing. Minigun for life, for reals, yo.
-Seeing random people from the forums, but not bothering to introduce myself since I don't post enough. I did have MUKAIKUBO on an index card under my badge, though.
-ONE THOUSAND BLANK WHITE CARDS in the Tabletop Games aux room Saturday night. If anyone else was in there observing us being loud and raucous, taking random articles of clothing off, or lending us a d4- Oh god, that was fucking epic. Anyone else there on here?

yeah, i was that other asian kid walking around, the slightly short and stockier one, not one of the pair of those other asians who walked around looking like the racers from better off dead.
i recognized you and would have said hi only i found it slightly...odd. i dunno, i guess i found it uncomfortable just walking up to a stranger and saying, "Hi! I know you from ze internets! You're Eyes5!" I figured since you're both easily recognizable and a girl you had already had gotten enough of that crap.
Everything was awesome except for the people who were ultra-lame when they asked their question in the PA panels:
Zombie questions. The first time it was funny, after that, lame.
Sharks vs Bears. Lame.
Hating on G4 out of nowhere. Lame.
Hating on Sony/PSP out of nowhere. Lame. (I don't even have any of their products, so don't call me a fanboy.)
And the (bites tounge) girl with the long winded, forgettable question who plugged her friend's forgettable website. That was a huge waste of time that could have been spent on a halfway interesting question. Thanks for that.
I'd say that about half of the time in the panels were wasted on retarded people asking retarded questions.

The best things were
playing soul caliber 2 blindfolded
telling people how to play steel battlion
the power auger in dead riseing
playing 99 nights
being in the front of the line the first day with all the shanangins
being part of the bawls cheer squad
playing Guitaroo man
worst things
after spending 8 and 1/2 hours in line the first day which was fun then i could not stand some of the other line at pax which were Every where
regret
not spending time in the table top zone and not entering more tournys
The Sumo Bags everywhere. So comfortable for mobile gaming The panels: Although the lines sucked, I got into everything I wanted to see this year, unlike years past. The Omegathon Games: Would have loved to have been a part of this one this year. I liked just about every game (couldn't see the DS match though). Sno Bawls bottle: My favorite non-PA keepsake of the weekend. Running into folks from previous years: Always cool The Scions: The way I saw two of those things pimped out almost makes me want to buy one of those lunchboxes. Almost. The Expo Hall Much improved over last year, although I didn't get through any of the lines to actually play anything. Just a spectator. DDR Lines Much better than years past and not so many stinky kids as last year.
The Bad:
Not so bright line organization One particularly bad instance of being shouted at by a young Enforcer comes to mind. She insisted that we HAD to cram ourselves 5 or 6 deep into the stairwells before the Omegathon (which several of us warned her was both illegal and a fire hazard). Luckily, wiser Enforcers later corrected her mistake for her...and I guess all of this is just proof that PAX needs a bigger venue.
No Bawls: Because I wasn't actually craving any until Saturday, I missed out on the whole "Bawls" experience. Suck!
Wireless tournaments: A great idea, but getting games started in those things was tough due to interference. I played in two Mario Kart matches where the lag was so bad we were frozen in place a few times. Going down to the parking garage helped a little.
Clearing the room after panels: I know due to the venue size it had to be done, but it was frustrating to file in and out of line with the same 2000 people interested in seeing the same shows I was. Hopefully next year this won't be an issue.
At What The Pho? I think it was her first day, she was super shy, you should have given her a wink and a smile irl.
If it wasn't her first day, she's a professional at the "acting like a confused first-day waitress" routine, which is probably the single most effective way to get big tips from people who aren't robots.
Oh yeah, the food was good too. I'm glad I didn't kill myself with the chopsticks.
Spending more time waiting in line for console play than actually playing consoles.
I don't know when you went to play consoles but my play time was at least double my wait time. I tried to do it when the line wasn't too big, and it usually went surprisingly fast. Then again, the only game I played was Guitar Hero...

Best: playing games until I literally passed out
Worst: scraping my elbow up on the pavement when I literally passed out
I was the Asian girl who kept picking fights with that big Enforcer guy trying to hit on me.
Well, I was the guy sitting next to you in the final and kicking your ass
Good game though, seriously. That was iintense.
Hey hey hey, occasionally I was the one doing the kicking. :P Really, I won a prize, I got some bragging rights, and I got to play with 14 other extremely competent people, which is really all that I can ask for in the MKDD tourney. I really hope they're gonna have it again next year!
I thought the organization of the console freeplay was a bit broken. I see huge lineups to check in, and, at any time, 25% of the TVs were unoccupied. There needs to be more than one console at every TV. I found it easier just to immediately sit down at an empty station and start playing instead of checking in. (I stopped doing this after a while because the Enforcers were beginning to recognize me) And there were a lot of people who were playing multiplayer games with 1 or 2 ppl so I just asked if I could join them.
The Good:
PC BYOC
CS:S Tourney
Smack Talk Competition (It sucked so bad it was funny, noone won, they gave up and went away)
All Hail The Ball
Lots of Swag
Free Copy of City of Heroes Collectors Edition
All of the games in teh exhibition hall
Being able to see the concerts very clearly from the BYOC room with sound. Beats standing in the back not being able to see clearly.
The Bad:
Snobawls were out every 10 freakin minutes. I only managed to get some once. I even asked for just what they had then and got turned away
Insanely crowded SSBM tourney
Nvidia card raffle during the CS:S tourney. I wanted to go so badly, but we were in the middle of a match.
my favorite part(s) was when I got my picture taken with all the RvB guys an then three seconds later, getting the shit kicked out of me by the same guys.
A slight revolation was at about 11:30(ish) on friday night after I realsied how utterly shity my hotel was, I collasped on the beanbag chairs in the wireless lounge and I could just stay there all night. I actually crashed till like 2:30 when an enforcer woke me up and said I had to go home, I Pleaded with him (might have been a her now that I think about it, I still can't remember.) not to make me go back, but I was told the phrase i began to hat "you don't have to go home but you can't stay here, now get the fuck out" all in all I had a fucking great time, i'm going to do it next year....when it becomes next year, but next year I'll be an omeganut or an enforcer or a member of the meda.
Till then i'm just gonna ditch this account till....oh I don't know meaby march of next year. I'll see all of you then.
*note* If thiss account begins to collect dust over the next....ten months, just leave it.
#5: Beating Arkham Horror! We did it not once, but twice. 4 grueling hours each time, but well worth it. I'm so gonna buy this game... but I might wait a while first. 10 hours playing in two days makes me want to take a break. If anyone I played with or, hell, anyone who's interested wants to have a mini tabletop night around bellevue or seattle some time, hit me up.
#4: Hanging out with the tabletop enforcers! It took me a while to figure out exactly how many of you folks were the same as last year. You've made the tabletop room the best place at PAX for two years running. There comes a time on the last day of a con when you're just too exhausted to do anything except sit and bullshit, and you guys (and gals) were awesome.
#3: MC Front! Never hit up their concert the last two years, and I'm sorry I missed it. I wanted to stop by on Sunday to tell him how much I enjoyed it, but I was just too damn tired to get up from the tabletop room in time. I also got to hang for a while with some of his friends and beat Arkam Horror with them. A guy with friends that cool has got to be awesome.
#2: The last Publishing your RPG panel in the tabletop room on Sunday! I'm not very far into writting my own RPG but they gave me quite a bit of inspiration. They were nice with just enough sarcasm thrown in to keep me interested. Big thanks to them.
#1: The Minibosses! God my neck still hurts. I've never been much of a concert man, but they rocked! The little twists they added to their old songs this year made the concert tons better than last year.

Considering what I would have done as an Enforcer, I'd say you were a saint.
Sure, it wouldn't last long, but the part between when I pull out my taser and when the police arrive, that would be the best PC / Console Freeplay area ever.
I tried to hunt Hacksaw down, but couldn't find any way to contact him. /Sadface.
I'm going to help out one of the guys still waiting on a flight, run him around Seattle a bit. Anyone else still in the area and down for shennanigans?
What would rock next year would be 24/3 convention time, so people could crash on the beanbags... Ah, if only I was old enough to be an enforcer...
NO.
While I'm not one to freak out about a little funk, if people could spend 3 days in a row without bathing, it would be really nasty by the Saturday night concert.

Don't let the celebrity status go to your head.
It probably was me, even though I never saw those messages. Due to the lag of 500+ DSs all trying to use the same airspace, messages were being lagged/not being sent all over the place, so it's certainly possible.
Hanging out all night in the Hilton, incredible hijinks, planning to move the couch to the top floor from the bottom, noticing people from the forums(Doc I said hi to you at the Hilton and across the street from the pre-PAX dinner), yelling "You Blue Shell Motherfucker!" at the pre-PAX dinner, camping out the night before with those cool dudes from Oregon and those jackasses from Detroit. So much more.

Oh yeah, the food was good too. I'm glad I didn't kill myself with the chopsticks.
I think I had bad luck on the lines / waits, so yeah
But console freeplay was still pretty beefy.
I had no complaints and heard none from my friends about the PC enforcers.
Also: Major balls to whoever swiped that laptop. In the face, with other parts going towards the ears.
The highlight for my day on Saturday was beating 15 guys at a game I've never played and winning a Logitech laser mouse.
The PA panel was pretty cool though, I liked being able to watch the comic being drawn. That was interesting... and amusing.
Awesome, I'm glad to hear it. Some people were really big jerks, but 99% of the people we had going through were just genuinely great to work with.
Worst: scraping my elbow up on the pavement when I literally passed out
I thought the organization of the console freeplay was a bit broken.
Yeah, sorry about that. At least I didn't stay connected and draw you one of those wonderful pictures everyone is so fond of drawing.
Oh, that, and playing Company of Heroes for hours on end, and hanging out with people from the forums. We've got quite a rockin' community here.
^This is like the ball pit at Chuck E Cheese's^
Considering what I would have done as an Enforcer, I'd say you were a saint.
Sure, it wouldn't last long, but the part between when I pull out my taser and when the police arrive, that would be the best PC / Console Freeplay area ever.
I tried to hunt Hacksaw down, but couldn't find any way to contact him. /Sadface.
I'm going to help out one of the guys still waiting on a flight, run him around Seattle a bit. Anyone else still in the area and down for shennanigans?
NO.
While I'm not one to freak out about a little funk, if people could spend 3 days in a row without bathing, it would be really nasty by the Saturday night concert.
The Tabletop area was pretty badass.
I missed this panel. I am distraught
I briefly saw someone in Pictochat named "Doc" and spent the next ten minutes bothering people if it was "The REAL Doc."
Don't let the celebrity status go to your head.
It probably was me, even though I never saw those messages. Due to the lag of 500+ DSs all trying to use the same airspace, messages were being lagged/not being sent all over the place, so it's certainly possible.
