Halo3's "believe"... as enacted by Viva Pinata (now they've done the museum ad)

Remember that "Believe" ad for Halo 3? Well, it's been... ah... borrowed by Rare for their latest trailer for the next Viva Pinata.

This will easily be the oddest thing you've watched all week.

Now here's their take on the Museum ad.

Pharezon linked me to this not long ago, and it is utterly awesome. Also looks far too professional to just be a fan-made thing.

That was easily the best thing I've watched all week. The absurd melodrama of the original could only be topped ... by adding piñatas. Hilarious, A+++ would buy again.

You know, I dont get the Rare hate. They are pretty awesome. Viva Pinata was a quality title.

I think the ridiculous price MS paid for them put additional expectations on them.

Their last few games have been great.

I liked that game. Far more than Grabbed by the Ghoulies. Heck, Kameo and Perfect Dark 0, two launch games and both were definitely decent. The new Banjo looks grea,t plus they're doing the new Avatars.

They weren't necessarily bad, but their output from the Cube-Xbox years to Viva Pinata wasn't exactly up to the sheer awesomeness of the SNES-N64 days.

So there's reason for the griping. Looks like they've finally got their act together, though.

I still don't think RARE can top the 8-bit days with battle toads and Solar jetman and snake rattle and roll but those days are long gone. I have resisted viva pinata because I don't enjoy breaking open pinatas to feed to other pinatas. But, who am I to judge what kind of pinata breaking shoud and shouldn't be allowed.

You don't really ever need to break pinatas. They break each other often enough (many have 'eat X of Y to enter romance mode' requirements), but it's usually far better for you to sell them than break them for the candy they drop.

That... was.... AWESOME. I wonder how much it cost them to make that. I'm sure they had the toys laying around the office in piles, so what? The price of the camera and materials to make the set?

I think a certain level of it yeah.

    At least Rare Apathy.

Like, as though they haven't made a decent game since Goldeneye, despite Perfect Dark being superior in every single regard.

As though the new Banjo is doomed to mediocrity. Or the slow but high sales of Viva Pinata were unwarranted.
    Disgusts me sometimes.

Perfect Dark Zero was at best a middling to average to game---but viewed as the sequel to the original Perfect Dark is a stinkbomb in game form.

Kameo was okay, Viva Pinata was okay (played the demo and liked it for a couple of hours but got bored), and Star Fox Adventures was pretty terrible.

I have no particular dislike for Rare, but they haven't put out anything I would buy in a long time, so any Rare project is met by me with a shrug.

Except the regard of it pushing the 64 to the point that it is nigh-unplayable in parts.

Or that the story is complete and utter balls.

Really, the Rare hate is more of the "How the mighty have fallen" than the "LOL Phoenix Games" variety. To me, they really haven't made much worth looking at since their N64 stuff (and even that stuff could be a bit hit-or-miss).

Video is quality, Rare are awesome.

I wonder if / when we'll get another Live Arcade title from them, excluding the '64 Banjo port, of course. I think that is being handled by another team anyway.

Wait, people thought the "Believe" ad looked fan-made?

I mean, it wasn't very good, but fan-made? I'd like to meet the fan with enough cash to make all that by hand and film it.
It's great until the Master Chief looks up. It's a goddamn action figure.

Yeah, and that pissed me off more than a little, but you have to admit that the sheer scale of the diorama doesn't lend very well to being fan-made.

It's very professionally done. And gorgeous to boot.
