School time. I am in a big sterile college hall full of classrooms and dim youth just like me. I'm about to go to my first ever college class, Stretch Math 131 because I am a retard and suck at math so I am taking a remedial course, awesome
I'm going to VCU and my major is currently Mass Communications with a subfocus in the school of Journalism
I am taking 13 credit hours and this seems like an awfully intimidating amount of work to me
So my e-peers, where are you going to school, what for, and how much work do you intend to do
I was gonna go do the art thing at a community college, but they were all like, "Woah, wait. You didn't take any art courses when you were in high school? No dice."
I guess that makes sense.

I'm done with college. Got my degree and everything. and now that I've quit my job, 3 years industry experience.
my school is starting again next Wednesday. this semester i'm going to have intro to marketing, intro to operations management, History of American medicine, Reconstruction of Early Rome, and a class that combined all the best aspects of bullshit, "Philosophy and Psychology" taught by a stoner Pole.
on wednesday im going to have marketing, philosophy and early rome, which bodes well for my plan to be drunk the entire day on account of a dude having a birthday in the bar around the corner of the college.
I was gonna go do the art thing at a community college, but they were all like, "Woah, wait. You didn't take any art courses when you were in high school? No dice."

haha
you should go to their rival school and then win the big art competition against them in the finals and then we'll make a disney movie about you

sometimes I miss highschool.
is that weird?
No you're just really old and those were the best years of your life.
Boy how much do you suck that High School was the best years of your life?
I didn't say they were the best years of my life, they were just simple.
Sometimes I wish I could phase out and go to class and move to the next class when the bell rang and eat lunch and talk shit with my friends then play football.

I used to be at Oberlin Conservatory of Music. Now I'm at Penn State. The faculty and I didn't exactly see eye to eye, and it turns out I got out at the right time because they went from 4 full-time professors to 1 last year, and now the department is one guy trying to keep up with 4 professors worth of workload.
I'm not performance mainly because the performance people here and I would have the same conflict as at Oberlin. For them, doing anything that's not Jazz or Baroque-Classical-Romantic isn't really playing piano. Since I actually enjoy eating, my viewpoint is a little different. I've seen students of other fields have to basically hide playing anything not in their repertoire from their teachers. The composition professor here though, who also gave me lessons in high school, and probably gave me this idea, feels the same way I do, that music is music. And there's good music and bad music, but just because it's in a specific style doesn't mean it's good or bad. Whether it's good or bad means it's good or bad.

almost done with two weeks of orientation/seminars
trying to work out my schedule of 16 credits a semester
laid up with mono in my room
my school has a good creative writing program, but I went to their seminar for upcoming film majors yesterday and it was all "focus on avant-garde" and open condescension for narrative storytelling and schools that prepare students for jobs in the biz instead of using film to express themselves
so I basically figure that I will not be taking any film classes as long as I'm at this school

no shame in taking remedial math. There is shame in failing the second part of first year calculus twice, dropping the course once, and finally passing it in your fourth year with a C+. Not that I'm speaking from experience or anything. . .
SO yeah, I'm going into my 5th year of the 5 year Computer Science program at University of New Brunswick. I have 9 courses left to do and will probably try and grind through 5 this term and 4 the next. It doesn't help that I found out late in my 4th year that I should have gone to an arts school and that I want to go to a music school.

my past is precisely as lame as i think it was
I made a promise to my younger self that I would run head first into the nearest door frame if I ever got warm feelings about my school days.

I go back to school at the start of september. It's a small, private, and expensive university that has little to no redeeming qualities for me (the fact it doesnt have what i want to major in being one issue) and I tried transferring out last year but didnt get into the school I really wanted to go to. I plan on reapplying to some schools this semester and hopefully I'm out of there before spring semester.
Freshman year was a mixed bag. On the one hand I did solid academically and there were some good times, however there's really only one or two friends that i've met there that I would actually miss when i leave the school and if you dont feel like drinking and dont have a car you have fuck-all to do there.

I forget how I felt about the workload when I started going to college.
I think I wasn't too stressed about it, but I had a couple of roommates over the years who were constantly like "holy shit holy shit gotta study study studystudystudystudy"
I just had a good ol' time with it, probably could have finished as much as a half a GPA point higher, but you know what? That shit doesn't actually matter one bit unless you're doing some super competitive post-grad stuff. And fuck that.
it's not college if you don't finish a ten page paper five minutes after the class has already started and run from the library to class in record time

I actually just graduated from there this summer. You going print or broadcast?
Some friendly advice:
-avoid the advising staff at all costs. They are morons, and you can figure out everything you need to do by picking up a graduation checklist and the bulletin.
-If you decide to go print, try to get a class with Greg Gilligan (you'll probably have to for 203), or Jack White (former writer for Time magazine, with plenty of good stories to tell). Avoid any classes with Jeff South and Bonnie Davis if at all possible. You will find out why.
But seriously dude, I hope you have as great a time as I did. Sucks with all the scandals going on (well, wrapping up, really) down there.

This should be an interesting and slightly horrifying way to relive the college experience.
