space is pretty cool guys

n11lmc_noao.jpg

every time you look up in the sky you're looking at a trillion trillion miles worth of stars, galaxies, and other, weirder things

603px-Crab_Nebula.jpg

like the Crab Nebula, a six light-year wide cloud of expanding gas from a thousand-year-old supernova

hst_EtaCarC.jpg

or the star Eta Carinae, which is literally on the verge of going supernova

speaking of supernovae

supernova.jpg

we've shot a lot of things into space

goofy silver balls

sputnik.gif

mutts

LaikaRussianDogRSA.jpg

even some dudes

international-space-station-ctrl_65.jpg

we've built things in space

international-space-station.jpg

they say we've even put people on the moon, but that's a load of horseshit

NeilArmstrongMoon.jpg

science fiction is all about space

space is pretty cool guys

let's talk about it

we should all take comfort in the fact that while we wont get to experience most of the wonders of space, at least our children might just get to do it someday when all of us are long gone

today I thought about how music cannot exist in space since there is no air.

and it made me sad that there was something art could not transcend.

Yeah, and the chances of that event even affecting any given star are supposed to be astronomically (haha) remote.

I've always been kinda afraid of space, and the aliens that come from it.

When I was kid I freaked when my mom moved my bed by the window because I was afraid to sleep directly under it. Donno why, but I guess I thought that an advanced alien civilization that had traveled billions of miles to earth to probe me would give up if they had to walk a yard from the window to get to my bed.
