I don't have to eat French fries.

And on that note, fire up the hype machine. Let's see...

*Super Bowl Shuffle, which apparently will go forward regardless of the Pats' presence.
*Peyton is finally in The Big Game. The biggest of games. If he doesn't scrimmage enough yards... the other team might win.
    *Grossman.
*No black coaches until now, now we have two.
*Indiana! Illinois! Heartland! Lots of shots of farmers!
*Colts haven't won a Super Bowl since moving to Indy. Will they finally bring a trophy to the... the... Indianapolis does have a nickname, right?

I dunno -- they might not cop that many pleas cuz they have Peyton to celebrate. Pats lost because Peyton is great, whatever -- I dunno.

Man, I didn't really care about the game until Brady finally has to do something besides get into range for Viniateri, and he nuts up and throws a sorry ass pick. That was when I was finally celebrating. My hate was released.

I wonder if we're going to get a huge media blitz over how over matched the Bears are yet again for the Superbowl like we did last week for the Saints.

I mean, as a Bears fan living in Indy, I know I will. I'm curious about the national media, though.

Well, the Bears really are a mismatch against the Colts, as far as I've seen. Grossman can't eat up the clock or control the ball the way that Peyton can. He has a good but not great offensive line and I haven't seen him do too well under pressure (Admittedly, I only watched Bears games when the Colts weren't on so I didn't catch their entire season). I think that the strategy Indy used to wear out the Pats' defense would work just as well against the Bears and I expect to see it again in the superbowl. I'm worried about the Bears defense during the first half, of course, but Manning can pull a couple moves outside of the pocket and his line usually gives him plenty of time anyway so I'd be surprised if we didn't score more than we did against the Pats in as much time. Indy has been shutting down the run, so there's going to be a lot more pressure on Grossman than there has been in previous games and I just don't see him tossing as many long throws against the Colts as he did against the Saints. It will be an entertaining game for sure but I don't really see the Bears keeping it within seven.

Edit: Why are there so many goddamn Bears fans in Indiana? Are there a ton of Indy fans in Chicago too?

    Sure. Rub it in.

On the bright side, at least I know who I'm rooting for in the Bowl. A Chicago/N.E. matchup would have cause me great consternation, being a Chicagoan by birth. Now, it's easy.

I do think they need to redo the Super Bowl Shuffle, with the old sets and music.

I really hope people let the Shuffle remake idea go. Look, as a Bears fan, I know that every player on our team is worse than the '85 starters, with the exception of Hester and maybe Robbie Gould.

    I'm also an Indy resident...

Is anyone else thinking that officiating is going to once again be a big deal in this superbowl? I had thought the NFL was getting this under control, but looking at the Saints/Bears game I don't feel reassured. I don't mean to take anything away from the Bears, who clearly outplayed the Saints regardless of the penalties, but I felt there was a strong air of favoritism displayed by the referees watching over the plays. I think if they used the same squad they used in Indy they'd be alright... The ref didn't bend to Peyton when they (correctly) canceled their defensive pass interference, and they didn't try and make any unnecessary or coddling calls that would've made it a game of penalties where they decide the outcome. The referee core at Soldier's field though, didn't look good.

Well, I just like to point out that the whole reason Peyton got a second chance was that Bob Sanders(safety) broke up that 3rd down pass on the last drive by the Pats. Remember the Colts drive before the last? Yeah, 3 and out for good ol' Payton. Its just in this game, the Colts D gave Manning just enough opportunities to make up for his mistakes. Which in the end, is all you can really ask for.

While that is true, look at the comparative time of possession for the second half. Peyton controlled the ball and did a big part himself to keep the ball out of Brady's hands. The Colts defense once again delivered a superior performance when it counted and should be getting more props, you're right.
