Is anyone here regretting buying a PS3?

edited October 2008 in Games and Technology
So I think I've fallen out of love with my PS3.

I have a 360, an up to date gaming PC, and a PS3. My PS3 gets practically no play time, and I can't see myself playing it anymore in the near or distant future.
I'm mainly a PC gamer, so I have absolutely no interest in the big shooters coming out for PS3 (Resistance, Killzone, etc). Blu Ray is pretty much a non issue for me - There's no way I'm going to pay that much money for a single movie.

I've got 3 games for my PS3; Warhawk, MGS4, Uncharted. I love all of these games, but they alone hardly justify a game console purchase - especially one as expensive as the PS3.
The 360 and PC have a tonne of quality titles coming out this holiday season, and from what I can see, PS3 has sweet stuff all.

I'm not intending to turn this into a console war flame thread, I just want to see if anyone else feels completely underwhelmed with the PS3 at this point in time?

I feel pissed off that my country introduced the 80 GB model at the same price as the 40 GB version with no increase in cost...less than 3 months after I purchased mine. Maybe I wasn't keeping up to date with the news about the console world, but fuck that shit.

Other than that, I'm ok with the current PS3 library, though I'm pretty much waiting for games that, at best, have release dates that are TBA (meaning 2009).

I bought my Ps3 for Uncharted and was entirely satisfied. Of course, I never buy a console for one game alone so my plan was to split the multiplatform titles over the consoles depending on which ones had multiplayer I was interested in.

So COD4 on the 360, still playing online constantly.

DMC4, on the PS3. No multiplayer.

Burnout Paradise, on my PS3 because I wasnt interested in the MP.

It has extended the playtime of my PS3 which would otherwise be flagging well behind my 360. I dont feel any regret at all, it is an excellent console and a blu ray player. I'd say if you have a HDTV grab Planet Earth on BD and that justifies the purchase then and there.

My PS3 is the complete package really. I felt let down by MGS4 and Warhawk but Uncharted I loved. Resistance was decent.

Have you played the LittleBigPlanet beta which came out yesterday? Believe the hype.

I bought a PS3 primarily as a Blu Ray player, as it was the cheapest BD player at the time. I have a PC, 360, and Wii. Those are listed in order of use. Occasionally, I put in one of those odd PS3 exclusives (say, MGS4) and consider it added value.

    No regrets.

If Blu-Ray prices are your problem, I'd highly suggest amazon. Wait about a month after release and the prices are usually much lower. You could also use your PS3 as a media hub for your living room, if you don't already use your 360 to stream.

It's not really cost effective buying Blu-Ray movies from Amazon for me, because I'm in Australia.

D'oh Australia. I was about to mention Netflix treats Blu-Ray the same as DVD and has a huge selection.

I got mine in April. My brother bought FIFA 08 in which I had absolutely no interest. A month later, I bought Oblivion; I managed to extract 50 hours from it despite the fact that it wasn't all that fun. Since then, I haven't touched my PS3. I'm planning on getting Burnout Paradise in a week or so. I haven't bought any Blu-Ray film yet, though I am eyeing the new Godfather restoration.

The thing is, in India, a legit PC game costs Rs.999 (~$25) while a PS3 game can cost upto Rs.2800 (~$70). So while I don't regret buying the PS3 (yet), I do regret not actively hunting for the BC version.

Since I picked up my PS3 I haven't plugged my 360 back in. Once a big exclusive hits I might switch it back, but right now I'm enjoying Uncharted. I'm definitely glad I got the BC version, though, and I'd be surprised Sony doesn't have the feature in all consoles, except I'm sure they love seeing the PS2 sales tick upwards every month.

I'm more interested in the PS3's future right now than I am with any of the other consoles, even the 360 which I actually own (the PS3 in our house is my brother's).

I think one of the major points of the PS3 is the PSN. There are a ton of great games there. Are you interested in survival horror? If so, go give Siren: Blood Curse a try, it's not that expensive, and if you're worried about price, you can download small chunks of it at a time. And WipEout HD is coming soon, which is another game I'm looking forward to. You can also try fun little games like Everyday Shooter and The Last Guy. That's the major thing that I'm excited about with the PS3. The exclusive games on X-Box Live don't even compare in my mind.

The only console this gen which I regretted buying was the Wii, because it didn't have many games I was excited about, or particularly interested in playing outside of Brawl and Sonic and the Secret Rings. But I regret selling it now because I want the new Wario game, and I'm hoping Capcom Vs. Tatsunoko makes it over here. What I'm saying here is, don't sell your PS3, because there might be things in the future about it that you'll be interested in playing.

Pretty much the opposite of you. I NEED a PS3.

To me, the PS3 exclusives are much more for me than what the 360 has, and everything else I want is multiplatform anyway.

If you already have a 360, the PS3 isn't going to be a huge addition since so many of the great games on both systems are multi-platform. Following an unlikely series of events, I ended up with a MGS4 bundle for free and MGS4/Uncharted/The PixelJunk games are fun, but I wouldn't have felt it was quite worth it if I had spent money on it. LBP looks nice though.

LBP is probably the major thing that, I think at least, is going to turn a lot of people to the PS3. There is a lot of potential there.

I'm currently trying to sell my PS3 after owning it for 4 months.

I haven't started the console up in 1 1/2 months and I played MGS4, Uncharted and Ratchet&Clank when I just got it.

Now there's nothing on the horizon which interests me at all.

the ps3 and the 360 make each other terribly redundant

i only own a ps3 so it's awesome. all the big multiplats? check. psn glory? check. little big motherfucking planet? check. i have a lot of money, but i still don't have enough to see everything the ps3 has to offer at the moment. if i had both systems? i'd simply give up.

basically you've been greedy and you've wrought this upon yourself

For me Warhawk alone was worth the price of admision been playing since it launched over a year ago and still enjoying it. Wipeout hitting this week has me pumped with LBP on the horizon. Some of the multiplat games have been disapointing to me like GTA and Assasins Chore, but other than that I'd say I'm happy.

I'm looking forward to Ghostbusters, Fallout 3, and Final Fantasy (Which despite being multi-platform now, its a PS3 game at heart.)

I am still debating on getting Fallout 3 for PC, or PS3.

    Also, Mirror's Edge looks good.

I don't regret my purchase at all, and when PlayOn gets Netflix working on their service I will be a happy camper.

I don't regret it, though admittedly there isn't a lot I play on it. I had some interest in Warhawk, Folklore, and the major reason I bought it was Little Big Planet. That being said, I have about a dozen BR movies so far, and one season of a tv show, I've never payed over 20 on all but one of my movies(and they were all brand new), and even the tv series wasn't over 30. I'm not regretting it at all from a media point of view at all.

That being said, it's not, and I doubt it will eeeeeeever be my primary game system for this gen, but at least unlike my Wii, I still found a reason to keep the PS3 :P

All I play on it is PS2 games, but I like the reliable wireless controller (that is plugged into my Wii to charge because Sony is retarded.) and the virtual memory cards. Very glad I got a model with BC.

You need to be the sort of obsessive loon that gets excited about middling genre titles to really be into the PS3 right now.

I'm primarily a PC gamer, but I also have an xbox and ps3. Of the two consoles, I would say that the 360 has gotten the most overall play time, but I don't really play it a whole lot these days either. Mostly because we only have the one TV, and my wife doesn't do much with the PC, so if I took over the TV for video games she'd have nothing to do, whereas if she watches TV, I can still game on my PC and we're both happy.

I don't regret getting the ps3 though because I primarily got it as a BR dvd player, and for that (with my 40 inch bravia) I think it's awesome. I look at the ability to play video games on it a bonus, and some games that I've played for it make it worth the money easily.

I wouldn't say so. It may not be true for the PS3 as a lead platform, but there were plenty of games this past year that were definitely better on one platform, especially HD vs Wii and to a lesser extent, 360 vs PS3. Look at the EA football games, Valve games, and XBLA vs PSN.

The statements from some developers that the PS3 is a nightmare to develop for seem to back this up.
