My TODO List

This will be a place for me to list the things that are on my todo list and their relative priority. Sometimes something will be higher on the list because I see it as simple, not because it is more important. But I just thought it would be good for me to keep the list out in public so people will have a chance of checking the list before requesting something. This single list covers both bugs and feature requests.
  1. Offer a contact email if your account activation email did not work.
  2. Offer a contact email when registration is disabled.
  3. Offer a contact email when you have been banned.
  4. Implement a temp-ban automation system that automatically ends the temp ban at the prescribed time, and provides feedback to the banned user for how much time is left, and possibly the reason for the ban.
  5. Other stuff that I haven't got together in my head just yet.

Anyway you can code it in that, when a user leaves a forum to go back to the index page, it automatically marks all posts read in the forum they just exited? I know there's the "Mark all posts read" link in each forum, but I'm lazy and don't like clicking twice. ;)

That would have to be implemented as an option that could be turned off. I'd find it incredibly irratating as I often jump between forums.

Right. I figured a toggle would be a given.

Yea, I was banned once. It was pissing me off because I didn't know if it was temp-ban, and I didn't know why I was banned.

    Another request:

Perhaps limit quoting to 2 or 3 nested quotes. The single-most annoying thing (to me) about these boards is when people quote quotes just to start nesting quotes. When every post on a page consists of 30 nested quotes, it makes reading the new content a pain. Plus, how would you feel if I told you to read a book, but each time you got to a new page, you'd have to read all the pages before it again before you could start reading the new page?

Yeah, something like the one at TTB wouldn't be bad.

I think removing it would be a bad idea, but providing a having them "minimized" (-) and allowing you to "maximize" (+) the other quotes would be handy....

EDIT: It didnt make sense so I added quotation marks and (+) symbols...

I'd disagree with that. There will no loger be any reason for people to snip quotes, so they will get realy huge.

I don't like limiting it down to 1 like TTB does, but I think 3 or 4 is plenty.

Another feature request. It would be nice to have a "unwatch this topic" link added to the "you have watched this topic" page.

I keep clicking the "watch this topic" link instead of the return to forum link. It's a real pain to then scroll to the end of the page to unwatch it. before returning to the forum.

Yanno, with all the problems we've been having with emailing, this option should be disabled. Yes, it's convenient (kinda), but with a memberbase of this size combined with the activity of this forum, it can't be easy on the server(s) to have to email out when someone makes a post.

I say 'if yer too damn lazy to open a browser window to see if anyone replied to a post of yours, screw ya!'

on the getting banned thing, could you allow the people to check their pms, but do nothing else? that way they could be pm'd by the mod that banned them and be told why.

That would be fairly hard to do. phpBB checks the ban information when you log in. To allow banned people to read their PM's would require him to move the "banned" checking. It would be a big change, chances are the banned people could still do other things (by accident)

Only when you try to log in. Of course, if you're using the auto login, you are trying to log in every page.

The only situation where you'll get that without trying to log in is if you have been IP banned.

that would be a good idea. I'll have to remember that.

But allowing a banned person PM rights is a bad idea. I mean, if they were disgruntled, what's to stop them PM spamming everybody...Knocking otherwise important PMs out of the cue, and creating a potentially large set of emails being spammed to those with email notification.

Exactly what I was thinking. Besides, if they signed up with a legit email address, the mod who banned them has a way of contacting them to tell them how they screwed up.

i was thinking the ability to check, but not send, pms. cause yeah, if you got banned you might get mad and pm spam people and just make it worse :?

I have a idea, and since I've never even been in this board before i don't know if it's in the works or has come up, or if it would be unrealistcly difficult to implement, but...

How about buddy list, or watched lists for posters. They have them in the IGN boards(back in the day when I was there, man that was a long time ago) and I really liked the feature, let you keep track of your favorite (or least favorite) posters and see what they've said lately. But something I didn't like was the fact that they counted them up and stuff. Made it one big pissing contest. I'm not even sure if it would be a good idea to put it in the public profile or somewhere where only you can see your own list.

    Just an Idea.

That way, all SE regulars could be banned from AC and vice versa.

I was just making a very broad generalization. Specific examples being, Shinobi would be banned from AC, and Guru or Munkus would be banned from SE. Those that didn't want to cross the borders wouldn't have to, unless they did develop a talent for sculpture or whatever.

I have to agree with Elliotto on this one, it wasn't long ago that we hated, but just ignored one another.

If you raid another forum, you run the risk of being banned here. I see no reason why the same shouldn't apply to itra fourm troling. If you are enough of an asshat to troll one of the other boards, you run the risk of being banned from all of them.

I'm not commenting on the validity of Shinobi's ban, just the general case.

banning from a forum might be useful, but all it would basically do is keep some SE people out of AC. i don't see any other practical use for it, as i don't see any other internal struggles going on here.

How about an option that lets you post only at certain times in the day? Sort of like forum rations. That way, people won't be posting 'Ban Me' threads and complaining about how they haven't eaten in six days. Also, that could be an alternative to a light temp ban.
