The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
I'm gonna put together the character select screen tonight/tomorrow. I don't care if noobs want to join in as long as they are participating in the battle thread. Obvious exceptions will be made for regulars and those with outstanding sprites.
I'm only gonna use a few of the people who've posted in this thread for the first selection. Just because you're not in there doesn't mean you won't be allowed in. I just wanna get a loose framework up and running first.
I'm aiming to have a draft up by midday tomorrow. Late tonight if I get lucky. So if you want to get into the first cut put your stuff up quickly.
EDIT: Try and get a standing animation going. It doesn't need to be final and perfect (it can be revised later). 5 or 6 frames is all that's needed
aight. I spent a couple hours throwing together a demo of the character select screen. Things are fairly ugly right now (what do you expect for a couple hours). If anyone would like to help designing some of the menus and background screens let me know.
I'll support this as much as the community does. If you want to be added to the select screen you need two things:
1) a 64 x 64 portrait of the character (head shot)
2) a standing animation 165 x 165 as many frames as you'ld like (this will be the fighting stance in game)
There's no color limits, no style restrictions, etc. lay your sprites all out on one sheet (see my examples towards the top of the page).
Like I said. I'll carry this as far as everyone is willing to support it.
EDIT: regardless of wether this goes anywhere or not this thread should be supported for sprites and animation.
So, ummm........... is this only open for those people entering in the tourney? Ah sod it. Ahm gonna make me a gif anyway just to be part of the cool gang.
SPI, how did you increase the size of your sprite without making it fuzzy? I've been trying to figure that out.
Oh, and as far as character "size" goes, I can't imagine playing a game where everybody is as small as those little guys there are. Of course this would be solved by making those sprites bigger like you did to yours, SPI. Still, I'm just making sure we're not playing with midgets.
This is really cool SPI, I like the sprites you made.
I'm really curious how you made the animated Bacon gif though? It looks great
I made only the first image, the rest I just collected from the chat thread discussion that prompted this thread as some kind of chuck together OP.
Ah, I see.
Then the question I suppose becomes how do you make an animated a gif in general, I'd like to try my hand at a simple fire-emblem size sprite animation.
Isn't 165*165 a little overly large? If anything I'd want to decrease the size from those first sprites.
Here's a little comparison I whipped up. The blue line is at 165 height. I'd prefer to be down near Garou or Street Fighter 3 size.
the design size is 1024 x 768 for screen size so if you do the math 165 x 165 is actually pretty small.
When you look at the pixel size for something like street fighter the screen resolution is like 320 x 240. I think Guilty Gear is the only one that actually uses a large screen resolution, hence the bigger sprites. The engine I'm using, uses these as textured quads so its gonna scale things according to user settings and design resolution currently 1024 x 758. So don't worry about 165 x 165 being big. It'll work its self out.
The other nice thing about the size being big is that it gives you a lot more leeway when making pretty sprites. Don't worry about bit depth or anything. Make it pretty as you want.
And Lly, I said I'ld make exceptions for mods, regulars, or outstanding sprites. You're a regular so you're cool.

would be kind enough to do Mr. Pillow, that would rock.
alternatively, ARE YOU REXX ENOUGH!?

Fuck, that took too long.
That's all I got so far.

I zoomed in with photoshop and then pressed printscreen.

I don't know how much further I want to go with this.

Turned out better than I imagined. But I guess it's too small now, eh? Any other opinions?
Faster version
Neo: Shading hell, eh? Lots of anti-aliasing...
That Paris Hilton sprite is disgusting, so: good job XD
