I love how they actively ditched the GBA port so people can't even trade in their current DS' since everyone traded in their GBA to get a DS
Not everyone did. I never got around to buying a DS.
And even if I did, there's a chance I'd still keep my GBA just for Four Swords Adventures and my friend's copy of Crystal Chronicles. Now I'll still be keeping it and having an entirely unrelated DS.
But yeah, I'm ok with my Lite, so I may wait a bit to see if DSi grows on me. I haven't played a GBA game on it in so long that I probably won't miss that port.
You lose the GBA port but you gain the ability to download lots of games, maybe even GBA games eventually?

just saying it's clever on their part not to totally render the previous models obsolete so people will just buy the DSi straight away rather than say, when people would trade their DS when they came out with the Lite

I guess I'm just feeling a bit burned because my wii and ds both spent a great deal of time collecting dust until that shit-ton of games came out last week, and I really don't want to fork out the cash for another nintendo console right now.

It's the same thing as the upgrade to Lite, really. That got rid of old GB functionality, a lot of people complained and promptly got over it. And I'm pretty sure the GB library was even bigger than the GBA's.
