The whole point of using sites like Craigslist and Kijiji is dealing with buyers and sellers in person. In the past month, my boyfriend and I have picked up just a ton of stuff at incredible prices - Gears of War, Halo 3, and a guitar controller for $50, a 6x8" Intuos 3 tablet for $35, a studio-grade 19" CRT monitor for $15, a new-in-box D-Link router for $20, an unused Canon Pixma all-in-one photo printer/scanner for $30, a decent vintage Strat copy with new Fender pickups for $100 - and all of those deals have been made in person. The sellers gave us their addresses, we drove there during broad daylight with cash in hand, we looked the stuff over, we paid for it, we left. Even if something had gone wrong - if, say, we had taken the CRT monitor home, plugged it in, and found out that it didn't work at all - well, we would have known where the seller lived, and we would have been able to just take it back, in person, to demand a refund.
I refuse to make any deals with somebody who uses a site designed specifically for local interactions to try to buy or sell things internationally. I wouldn't even deal with somebody who wanted me to ship stuff within the province. If you can't see the person, don't trust them. Period.

Alternatively you might get shanked.
Scam.
I don't know how many threads this has been repeated in, but it will always be true.
Also be on the lookout for internet sites that seem reputable and are selling electronics equipment for way cheaper than anywhere else. This is especially bad for high end cameras I've noticed. They'' take your money and have some weird problem come up and you have to call them. Then comes the old bait and switch high pressure sales pitch. Total scam artists.
This is a really good point that deserves to be reiterated. We can make a whole long list of things to watch out for (like Western Union), but at the end of the day, if your gut feeling is bad, don't go through with it. Trust your instincts.
I'm not gonna say it, but you can tell who is sending that email.
Certainly a scam. Western union fails.
Also westernunion money transfers = scam
I wouldn't use this as a qualifier to determine whether or not something is a scam. I've seen legit eBay sellers from both the UK and the US type in worse English than THAT.

Or, more generally, the advice your mother gave you...if it seems to good to be true, it is.

Yeah, speak to someone from London sometime. I'm from the UK and some Londoners I'm just like o_O
But Western Union is just always, always, always a scam when it's being used for paying for goods or services. Only use WU if you are sending money to someone you know.
Why is Western Union bad? I can run a few assumptions through my head, but I'd probably be better off if other, smarter people explained it to me.

Basically, they can collect the cash with nothing but the unique ID number of the transaction, so you don't even know if the name the person gave you is true.
Guess I was wrong.
Western Union doesn't have any of these protections as it was never intended for use as a payment system for online orders anyway, it's more about sending money to your kids in Ibiza after they get wasted on Sangria and Ecstasy and give their wallet to a street whore.
I think that every time I visit any given American forum other than PA.
You've never been to London have you?
Looking at google maps, the address looks to be a residential address. However it isn't far from the main commercial district
