video games getting blamed for violence is a topic that really infuriates me
yesterday I got an email to a mailing list I'm part of, asking if someone could borrow the box for a grand theft auto game, which piqued my curiosity, so I read the rest of the email
turns out this person wanted to borrow it to display on a Day of the Dead altar at a local museum, the altar's purpose being a dedication to young victims of violence
this really infuriated me, but I didn't know how to constructively email them back and say "hey how about you put something
actually relevant on that altar of yours" -- especially since I think a tribute altar to victims of violence is a nice thing to do, in general, and I don't want to come off like a total prick to someone I don't even know, but man
what the hell can we do to get people who aren't part of the culture to realize that it's a close-minded and totally ridiculous viewpoint, exacerbated by psycho assholes in courtrooms who want to blame their irresponsible acts of violence on something else and not take personal responsibility?
Posts
but seriously, rock music was demonized back in the day, people just got used to it and now nobody cares
the same thing will happen with games
but it's so easy
How old was the person and why did they want to put it on the alter?
I host a podcast about movies.
and comic books
and women showing off their sinful ankles
I should go play some Grand Theft Auto
(when I play I feel bad about shooting people so usually I push them down then run away)
stop games from being a niche market, really.
The further video games are integrated into the mainstream and everday life, the less credible it will become when people try to cast scapegoats about
I do not have a 360 you see

I didn't ask why they wanted to put it on the altar, but I can't think of any other reason. can you?
Then it just gets repetitive and the level design really is lacking.
mercy me, not that!
THEY'LL RISE UP AND SLAUGHTER US ALL!
i thought it was for killing mexicans????
Yeah that strikes me as a bit odd as well, Day of the Dead is a very specific thing that doesn't mean what I think they think it means
WE'LL BE RADIATED BY SUPERVILLIANS AND BEAT TO DEATH WITH HANDBAGS WITH BRICKS IN THEM!
guess i better hand in my environmentalist card......
every spanish r is a rolled r
in fact, you would pronounce "rolled" as rrroy-ed
Are they ignant white people doing something in poor taste? Because my first thought was anybody who would do this was either an ignorant white person or a really bad walking stereotype.

edit damn you j3p
i would do terrible things
I think they're asking for the GTA4 box because they don't have one.
Maybe it is ironical, and you don't all-the-way get it.
You sort of get it, but they're still one step beyond you. You know, with the irony.
Yeah, I've never understood deep irony like ironic blackface or ironic serial murder so that could be
Cal, you can't fix the world's problems with boobies.
But I'd like to see you try.

uhhh, no, it's not.
If a single r is in the middle of the word, you don't roll it. It's a soft r. (there are a few exceptions)
R's at the start of the word, you usually roll it. Rico.
double r in the middle of a word is when you really roll it
this is the museum though: http://www.brown.edu/Facilities/Haffenreffer/
I detect no irony
