Portal: Still Alive -- Hits XBLA October 22nd, 1200 MS Points
GLaDOS is still alive, and coming to Xbox LIVE Arcade this Wednesday (Updated)
You are invited to return to the Aperture Science Enrichment Center this Wednesday, October 22 at 9 a.m. GMT (2:00 a.m. PDT) via Xbox LIVE Arcade. Due to the unforeseen conclusion of your last visit, all necessary precautions have been taken to ensure that “Portal: Still Alive” is a sanitary, objective, and mostly non-lethal testing environment.
In addition to the original award winning first-person puzzle experience, Aperture Science is proud to provide 14 new challenge maps exclusive to Xbox LIVE Arcade. Six advanced maps will also be provided to help guide you along the way.
Though prior test subjects proved to be unstable and may have presented false information, Aperture Science is pleased to inform you that your cake is indeed waiting for you and that the Weighted Companion Cube misses you in your absence. Come visit them again for 1200 MS Points.
Your prompt compliance is appreciated and will once again help us help you help us all.
Wait so if I'm reading the press release correctly, this is the entirety of Portal plus the extra maps for 1200 MS funbux?
Because hell, at that price, I won't have to keep debating about picking up the Orange Box for 360. (I have it for PC, but I played Portal on 360 as well and I kind of like it on a larger screen...)

Sounds that way. Too bad for me I already have Orange Box. Oh well, this is worth it though. Portal is easily one of the best games ever.
I introduced 2 people to Portal last night who had somehow never heard of it. They ended up playing it to completion which ended around 4am. Funny that thats EXACTLY what happened the first time I played it.....
Anyway i told them about this deal and they are both all over it. Fuck, Portal is awesome.
I thought Still Alive was just Portal plus the DLC maps from the PC version. What's this about XBLA exclusive maps?
...
The PC version had downloadable maps? They weren't made by Valve though?
The PC version always has downloadable maps. They're not made by VALVe, but they're still excellent. Hell, a large number of the most iconic multiplayer maps in games these days were originally third-party maps. Just download them and play them.
Are they going to be releasing the 20 extra maps as DLC for The Orange Box as well? That's a good price if you don't already have Portal, but not so much if you already do.
Yeah, unless these maps have a separate pack coming out on it's own for the 360 I don't think I am going to re-buy this game.
And I have to think these maps won't stay exclusive to XBLA for all that long.
It's implied that there is extra campaign and dialogue. Some of the achievements have been announced, and there's stuff that would indicate extra story.
I'll be buying it as long as my fucking Live points arrive.

wiki says:
Portal: Still Alive was announced as an exclusive Xbox Live Arcade game at the 2008 E3 convention to be released on October 22, 2008,[44] and will feature new levels and achievements.[45] The additional content will be drawn from levels from the map pack based on "Portal: The Flash Version" created by We Create Stuff and will contain no additional story-related levels.[46] According to Valve spokesman Doug Lombardi, Valve has been in discussion with Microsoft to bring Portal to Xbox Live Marketplace, but was limited by the amount of bandwidth that Microsoft is willing to allow for such content.[47]

So a couple of 16 year old guys made a flash game based on portal, made some portal maps based on that flash game, and then Valve comes along selling said maps on XBLA?
I... don't know what I think about that.

You too, if there's time.
That flash game is great, and is of surprisingly high quality. Though I'm not sure how the puzzles would translate to 3-d, I'm sure it will be good.

At that price, I'd rather save the money for L4D, and play the already-downloaded map pack for free.
It's out, and for what it's worth, it's really good. Here's a post I made about it over at 360arcadians:
I had a couple hours last night so I sat down with Still Alive. The new maps are pretty cool. There's definitely some new concepts to learn. I've finished four of the fourteen new maps and they all took me a while to figure out. I'm a little dissapointed that they took out clicking the left stick to crouch by default. I can probably re-enable it in the controls, but it keeps throwing me for a loop.
The game runs a lot better than the Orange Box version, far fewer and shorter load times and a higher framerate, but most of that is probably because it's running from the hard drive. The new achievements are fun, and there are a couple really hard ones. They added the extra challenges to the Advanced maps, too (time, portals, steps).
Like I posted earlier, the audio seems better than the Orange Box version. I also liked being able to play it on the 360 without the jet-engine DVD drive spinning the whole time.
(it has since been confirmed that you can enable the left-stick click)
That flash game was a LOT of fun, and was a great way to break up the time at work when my brain was melting. Hearing that those levels were somehow incorporated into Portal is pretty great. I've never even played the original Portal, so this is totally worth it to me. I've been dying to play this!
heavily debating this game. Heavily. Have it on PC, and while I'd like to play it on a bigger screen, I'm not sure I can justify paying for it twice, as money's a bit tight right now

So is there any chance the extra maps will be released as a downloadable pack later on for those of us who already bought the Orange Box 360? I want to play the new maps, but I really don't want to re-buy the whole original game again.

Yeah, that's really fucking lame they wouldn't release those as DLC for the Orange Box.
