It seems kinda difficult. I couldn't beat the clanker mission, but the controls are a bit weird and take some getting used to. Huge demo, though, and the game is outstandingly beautiful.

Presentation wise, this is exactly like the old Banjo games. From looks to music, they nailed it. It's been a long time since I played the other two games, but man did I get nostalgic goosebumps in the first world when they start playing a meledy of all of BK1's world music. Basically, Rare never lost it, this feels like a true sequel.
Gameplay... ehh, I don't know. I just played around with the default vehicles you get, and well... the controls sucked. With the racing games, just driving around was way too squirelly. The soccer game wasn't much fun either, since one hit and the ball goes flying, and it's near impossible to steer with the damn thing. And the tank was all but useless in the attack game. I had better results just getting out of the damn thing and meleeing. It felt like I was having to fight with the controls every step of the way, and it was simply a chore and not very fun.
Maybe it gets better when you get better parts and blueprints. But from the demo, I was completely sold by the looks, and completely turned off by the vehicle parts. But there were a few more blueprints I didn't buy, like the airplane one, so I'm going to go back later and mess around with them some more.

...and I thought of how all those people died, and what a good death that is. That nobody can blame you for it, because everyone else died along with you, and it is the fault of none, save those who did the killing.

Ok, so you enter this overworld, about the same size as any of the ones in the previous games. Only this time, you have jiggy icons on your maps, which are being held by characters who ask you to do a mission. A menu comes up that lets you change your current vehicle and start the game. 2 of the missions are flat out racing games, taking your vehicle and doing a lap of the world. 3rd one is sort of a soccer game. You hit this giant button and a ball comes out, and you have to drive it to the goal while avoiding some enemies. And the 4th is defending the eyes of Clanker (from BK2 if I remember right) from being destroyed by monsters. You're supposed to use the tank vehicle to shoot at them, but the geography of the area makes it too much of a pain in the ass, so you can just get out and punch them.
That's pretty much the demo. Going up to 4 people, playing their 2 minute side game, and getting a jiggy if you win.

Wahoo! Since I'm drowning in games I need to play and I have this pre-ordered anyway for the free original B-K (remember, do it through Amazon and get free shipping, $3 off and no stress worrying if the Gamespot register biscuits stole the pre-order) I'll probably skip the demo, but damn if I'm happy the old B-K feeling is back. Hopefully the controls won't be too annoying.

I actually didn't find the controls for the race to be that bad. Reversing is insane because you go so damn fast (faster than going forward it seems) and because the way the vehicles are setup you can pivot really fast. But driving forwards is pretty easy. There were a couple times i flipped the Racer over, but i think that's mainly due to its narrow track.
The soccer game was a little difficult if you had to maneuver the balls around, but i think that's due to the vehicle you were given. If you had something that could carry the ball instead of just push it, it'd be a lot easier. Like if your original vehicle had a ramp and so you could drive into a ball, have it roll up onto the ramp and sit in the tray. Then you could just drive through the goal posts. Hell, if the tray was big enough you could do it two at a time.
I didn't have time to get to the tank one because i was already late for work, but if the terrain is the problem, couldn't you build a vehicle with the turret up higher so it'd be easier to shoot over the terrain?
I realize this might not be possible in the demo, but what i'm getting at is that your problem seems to be with the default vehicles and not the gameplay. I mean, half of the gameplay is creating a vehicle that will solve the problem. You can use the default vehicles to get a sense of the challenge and then work on improving it.
urrrgh, wasn't a good idea trying to play this on my SDTV. I can't read the text and the game was giving me a headache.
I did the race. The way the vehicles hit eachother and uh. . .get stuck or spin out was kind of weird. I had a hard time at the beginning since I'd just hit something and get stuck but after you get in front of them, then it's simple.

were you guys using the pusher for the soccer game? it still wasn't perfect, but I thought it was pretty easy getting the balls into the goal with that. they practically stuck in the vehicle to allow for easy transport.
overall a lot of the vehicle control is a little too fine, easy to get turned around, run into walls, and flip the vehicles. maybe as you level them up you can make heavier vehicles that control a little better. the scale of the game at least seemed pretty good in that you could walk or use a vehicle and both seemed viable, but never too wide open or too cramped.
edit: as far as presentation goes, i thought it was pretty top notch. I mean I've only played for about 30 minutes, but things seem very lively for the most part and the world designs are interesting from what I've seen.
I think the vehicle editor is just all kinds of awesome. I spent well over an hour perfecting a vehicle to score 10 goals in the soccer game and win the trophy. I'll spoiler how i did it just in case...
Basically i used a design similar to the pusher one but i made it slightly longer, gave it some flat floor panels and raised the back by putting the wheels on a lower level. I did this so i could get a ball to role onto some springs. I had one spring to push the ball upwards and one to push it forwards so i could basically just chip the ball into the goal over all the defenders.

I think you may have just sold me on this game (haven't been able to try the demo myself, because, you know, Silver membership).
So I heard that if you preorder this you get B&K1 for XBLA. Is this true and if so is it for us Canadians as well?
Yes and yes.
We have rounded up all the details to date on the Nuts & Bolts pre-order scheme with the Banjo-Kazooie XBLA giveaway, because you asked and we love you.
For the blissfully unaware: it's an offer allowing those who pre-order Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts (from certain retailers in certain territories – see below) to download the Xbox Live Arcade version of the original Banjo-Kazooie not only for free, but roughly two weeks in advance of its public release date. Which is not just awesome, but awesome in the voice of the surfer dude fish from SpongeBob SquarePants.
You'll get the free B-K download token on or near the time you pick up Nuts & Bolts, and for the period between the launch of the two games (Nuts & Bolts on November 11th/14th in US/Europe, B-K XBLA on November 26th), only N&B pre-order customers will be able to download and play B-K XBLA.
The price of Nuts & Bolts will vary by region (so it's no good shouting at us, disgruntled Brits) and Microsoft is still in the process of finalising all the territorial details, but here's what we know of participating countries and retailers so far...
* UK/IRELAND: Amazon, Play.com, Game, Gamestation, Argos, HMV, Zavvi, Woolworthes, CD Wow, Tesco Online.
* USA: Amazon, EB Games, GameStop, GameCrazy and Best Buy (online)
* FRANCE: Micromania and Game
* SPAIN: Game
* ITALY: GameStop
* BELGIUM: Game Mania
* NETHERLANDS: Bart Smit, Bol.com, Consoleshop, Free Record Shop, 12Game.com, Xboxhome, Foregames, Dimension Plus, Gameshop Twente
* SCANDINAVIA: Game, GameStop, Webbhallen, CDON, Discshop
* NEW ZEALAND: EB NZ and Gameplanet
* CANADA: EB Games and Toys R Us
* AUSTRALIA: EB, Game, JB HiFi, *** Smith Electronics/Powerhouse (Inappropriate name for an E rated forum), and Harvey Norman.
Other countries known to be running the promotion but with no specific retailer info as yet: JAPAN, GERMANY, AUSTRIA, BENELUX, SWITZERLAND, probably not Uzbekistan or Narnia.
It's worth noting, in Ameribuxx, anyway, that Nuts & Bolts is retailing for $40, and the XBLA BK is going to be 1200 MS Points ($15), which effectively makes the retail 360 game a whopping $25. It's really the only reason I've preordered the game; hell, I might even not keep N&B and just Goozex it for full price while keeping the preorder code, but I'll try out this demo when I get home tonight and see how the game is!
The only real problem I had with it (the controls and vehicles felt wonky, but I attribute that to there being a learning curve) was that repairing the vehicles was annoying. I was using the pusher in the soccer challenge, and after a while things started breaking off. I only noticed it when the wheels popped off, and I thought it was annoying that I had to get out, track down the parts (and they don't show up on the map as far as I can tell), and then put them back. Didn't seem like it served any purpose.

You can just hold down rb when they fall off and theyll attach back automatically without having to get out the vehicle.

See, this is what I'm getting at. That sounds like a really innovative way to approach the problem.
Also, when you get the 4 puzzle pieces and return back to town and put the pieces in that thing-a-ma-jigger, it'll open up another portal. DO NOT go in that portal because all it does is play a trailer and end the game with no way of going back. Just a heads up.
so the demo is all kinds of awesome. me and my bro just worked together for about 15 mins to create a F1 car and its pretty cool. i even managed to go around the loop-de-loop! just a shame your stuck with the trolley wheels that look like sin.
also for shits and giggles i asked my bro to put the seat down, slap a medium sized engine to the back along with a fuel tank, then a propellor underneath the engine to see if it worked. it does. its glorious. Banjo has his own jetpack.
i dont even know if there is a point to the demo, we have just been collecting musical notes and messing with the creator.
kudos Rare.
