andromeda strain, sphere, jurassic park, rising sun, terminal man, eaters of the dead (a treatment of beowulf written on a bet, if i remember), timeline, the great train robbery
In an afterword in the novel Crichton gives a few comments on its origin. A good friend of Crichton's was giving a lecture on the 'Bores of Literature.' Included in his lecture was an argument on Beowulf and why it was simply uninteresting. Crichton stated his views that the story was not a bore and was, in fact, a very interesting work. The argument escalated until Crichton stated that he would prove to him that the story could be interesting if presented in the correct way.
In a seemingly offhand reference, H. P. Lovecraft's Necronomicon is quoted in the in-character bibliography.

liked em all
yeah, eaters of the dead was beowulf written like it was historically accurate, in novel form
Crichton became something of a guy you love to hate in the final years of his life. His books became filled with pseudo-science and one-sided arguments, where he would have characters designed to come off as super intelligent and informed who convince the "heroes" why the things they think they know are lies, like that global warming isn't true.
He managed to do it in a way much more blatantly than Orson Scott Card.
I love his earlier work, and he provided us with Jurassic Park, one of my favorite films of all time. May he rest in peace.

what?
those other two were pretty lame (espescially sphere) but 13th warrior was one of the first big battle movies
it was doing it before lord of the rings and shit
It was a pretty damned entertaining movie.
Not to the same level as Jurassic Park, but still an excellent adaptation of Crichton's book.
as if that's a surprise in hollywood
but yeah, as an actioney movie, it's good

Yeah, if you're looking for a highly faithful adaptation of the novel, you'll be disappointed.
But as a pretty well-executed action movie, it's quite good.
