The upcoming episode of the video game Grand Theft Auto IV looks to be a wild one.
GTA IV, which was released in April for the Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation 3, focused on former Eastern European soldier Niko Bellic and his escalating life of crime in the boroughs of Liberty City. This new episode, available Feb. 17 via download exclusively for those who own the Xbox 360 version (no price yet), stars Johnny Klebitz, a member of Liberty City biker gang The Lost.
"Johnny is a very different character than Niko, with a very different background," says Dan Houser, vice president of creative development for Rockstar Games. "I can't go into too much detail on the story, because we try not to give away too much plot before the game is released. But I can say that the story will show you a different side of Liberty City."
The episode, titled The Lost and Damned, requires players to have the full version of the Mature-rated GTA IV (ages 17 and older) and an Xbox Live membership to download. It's likely to carry an M rating, too. (Parents can use the Xbox 360's parental controls to prevent children from accessing inappropriate content.)
In the original game, Niko crossed paths with The Lost several times. This time, Niko has only a bit part, Houser says. "The story is not directly impacted by decisions you took in the main game," he says. But "tons of details and mysteries from the main story get explained, so it will add a lot of color to the main story."
Rockstar Games has been fine-tuning its explorable 3-D virtual worlds since launching its first "sandbox" game with Grand Theft Auto III in 2001.
The new game will let you download more sandbox time. "We feel like we've only scratched the surface in terms of the depth and detail in" GTA IV's mythical Liberty City, says Houser.
Previous games have used downloads to add "new stages, weapons and costumes," says GamePro Media features editor Dave Rudden, "but GTA IV's content will reportedly add hours of gameplay."
Rudden hopes the episode costs $15 or less, but Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter expects a $20 price and says Rockstar could sell 2 million to 3 million downloads. "I see episodic content as a natural progression of the quality of downloadable content."
If I had a 360 and I'd already 100%'ed GTA IV this summer I'd love to get my paws on this DLC.
Since I have a PS3 and we just got the trophy patch, it'll be a long-ass time until I've completed this fall's avelanche of awesome titles and am prepared to approach the mountain that is The Key To The City.
Here's hoping it really adds the 15+ hours they've been touting for your 360 owners.

Depends what day you catch him on. He's pretty consistently solid over at NeoGAF at guessing the monthly sales, and has made some good predictions in the past, but he's not a surefire bet.
Back to the content: Ugh, this sounds like balls. They'll really have to impress me before I even consider it.

The key to understanding this is that those NPD predictions are not actually predictions since they are about sales that happed at least 2 weeks before the results are announced. So if you had even a few contacts in retail and in the position to know something, you have a good chance of getting close to the right results.

Also, this is the same guy who said legions of Zombie PS2 owners would rise up and buy PS3's en masse for almost a year. Look how that turned out.
I'd be surprised if it was less than 20 dollars. I dunno why. That was just the price I pictured when I first heard of this. I wonder how big it will be. I was replaying GTA IV last night and actually just finished that mission where you fuck up The Lost after one of them tries to mack Faustin's daughter. The Lost are portrayed as pretty lame in this game, so playing as them doesn't really excite me. I'm sure it'll be cool, though. Februray is really far off, though.
February is closer than you think. Yeah, sucks that it's not out tomorrow, but so what. It's coming, and I'll buy it. A little weird that you're not Niko, though.

Considering all the real criminals and gangs you encounter in the game, the Lost just seem like some kids whose parents "like, don't get them, man."

I'm more concerned with how many (estimated) hours of content that this "expansion pack" will provide. I wouldn't doubt at all that it'd go for $20 or even more, so there'd better be more than 5 hours of storyline and missions there.
Hey look there are two games that are similar and each have positive and negative aspects. Let's argue about them why don't we.
BLA BLA BLA SR2 IS BETTAR NO GTAIV IS BETTAR NO SAN ANDREAS WAS BETTAR WAIT NO VICE CITY
While I found the plot in GTA IV wasn't quite as good as some made it out to be, I had a really fun time with it and there were a few poignant moments in there; by the time February rolls around I'd probably be fairly interested in taking another spin through Liberty City.
I absolutely think it's going to cost at least $20, if not more, so it better be a pretty decent chunk of gameplay; Microsoft is going to want their $100 million back. I'm also absolutely thinking there are things about this they haven't mentioned - Rockstar tends to play things really close to the chest, so I wouldn't be surprised if there were some other surprises they haven't mentioned yet.

I am pretty curious to get my hands on this. Frankly I never really cared for Niko; he just never resonated with me as a character. Hopefully this Johhny guy will be more likeable or relateable.
who actually gave a shit about the lost in the game?
I think you kill like three of them in the game. They're about as consequential to the plot as the stupid pigeons.
Really, they should have created something where you play as one of the pigeons. That would be worth my $20. (Actually, it wouldn't.... I'd sucker someone else into buying it)
I'm still stuck on Four-Leaf Clover, and haven't touched the game since June. I plan on getting back into it once I beat SR2 and FFA2 and get bored with L4D.
I never even finished the main storyline, so I probably won't be getting this.
I think a lot of people are in this boat. GTA games always run longer than I can stay interested. I'm not saying there should be less content, but I think less of it should be required to complete the main game. Then they could tighten up the story, since the biggest problem with the story is that its stretched out so long to cover all the missions.
Yeah, a biker gang. Niko meets one of them a few times throughout the game. One at a party thrown by the drug dealer woman, again when handling diamonds at the museum and again after the garbage truck mission. I think.
I wasn't even compelled to finish the game, it got so dry. I doubt I'd be interested in this DLC even if I had a 360. I'll probably play through again now that the game has trophies just to be a whore and finally beat it, but I think by the time I'm done with that I'll be so furious at the godawful car handling I'll never want to play it again.

Hmmm, I was trying to combine GTA, the TV show Lost and Couscous's hatred of DLC into some kind of coherent picture.

To be fair, anything + zombie infestation = win.
Mario + zombies = awesome.
Sonic + zombies = well, it's Sonic, so awesome-if-it-were-on-the-Mega Drive.
Lair + zombies = a much, much better game.

SR2 is much better.
If you like a buggy mess of a game with hideous graphics and lame missions/story.

Anyone want to tell me how close that is to the end of the game?
Depending where you're at with the other people, I would say about two thirds of the way through.
# 4.25 Liquidize the Assets
which is pretty close to the end of chapter 4(/5), and 5 looks relatively short. Maybe I'll finish it off after all.
The Lost? They were a gang?
Dang I want to play through this again.
