I want to listen to more music that's similar to the Intro of Final Fantasy VIII. Loud, orchestral, choir.

I think Barry White would probably serve better in the arousal capacity

I think "stirring" might have been the word the OP was looking for.

Try Wagner, Ride of the Valkyries. It's practically a parody of itself at this point, thanks to the infamous seen from Apocalypse Now, but I still get a kick out of it.

"five variants of dives and lazarus" by ralph vaughan williams is excellent. as the name would suggest, it's five different pieces with a common theme. not exactly like the ff8 intro, but definitely worth a listen if you're interested in similar music.

    Also, see Beethoven's 9th symphony.

The entire soul calibur 3 soundtrack.

Seriously - it has to be one of the most amazing pieces of video game music in a long time.

I was going to suggest "O Fortuna", but upon googling it to make sure I had the name right I discovered this is its proper name.

First thing I thought of when I read the OP. A definite must.

But definitely, next down the list are:

O Mio Bambino Caro peformed by Maria Callas
Requiem for a Dream / Two Towers Theme
    Craig Armstrong - Escape
John Williams - Duel of the Fates.... hell, anything by John Williams

Oh, and the Zelda: Twilight Princess E3 Trailer Theme.. look it up. It's ridiculously good.

edit: Can't forget Adagio for Strings.... just grab any orchestral version you can find, it doesn't matter, they'll all still make you cry because the music is so damn sad. Homeworld actually had a great rendition of the song on it's soundtrack, I'll see if I can track it down for you... I have it around here somewhere.

"O Fortuna" is one of the movements of Carmina Burana.

It's really what I was thinking of, but there's a lot of other great stuff in it, too.

St. John's Night on Bald Mountain by Mussorgsky is great, you should check that out.

I also second Carmina Burana. Fantastic stuff.

lux aeterna is also pretty nice. that's the song that was remixed for the end of requiem for a dream and has been used in countless movie previews. but it's still worth a listen.

I think it's in the hall of the mountain king by Greig. I've always enjoyed that song.

And Chariots of Fire by Vangelis. I tend to prefer the piano variations of this one, but most I've heard are at least good, if not excellent.

Dance of the Knights, altho I don't remember who did that one off the top of my head *google break* Sergei Prokofiev it seems.

Most of my other good selections have been mentioned already, and the rest it's too early and I don't recall the names yet :P

Sampling roughly the first half would be good.

The latter half is rather bland and repetitive.

I've got to second the Planets and Beet's 9th. Excellent stuff.

Also his 5th. which, while popular, has some stuff going on in the background that is simply fantastic. Played by the right orchestra those upright basses have some really really awesomely hard work cut out for them.

This is true, but half of it still comes out to about 30 minutes of goodness.
