This one is quite old, I'm talking King's Quest/Quest for Glory era. I remember playing it on the neighbour's PC around the same time as Eco Quest and King's Quest V. Anyway it was an adventure game, point and click, something arabic themed, the aesthetic was quite dark. I've ruled out Quest for Glory 2, because it's a much brighter game, and I don't think this one had combat. The main thing I remember is there was a desert which you had to travel through to get from place to place. If you spent too long in the desert some freaky ass huge monsters would tear you to shreds, unless you coerced a lion into following you around, then he'd maul their ass with his big ass claws. Ass. Anyway it sounds like Quest for Glory 2, very much, but I'm almost certain it isn't.
Any ideas?

Any of those sound familiar?
On the far-left side of the desert, was there a city populated by people and lions?
On the far-right of the desert, did it become jungle?
Did you not have to fight because you were playing the Thief class?
Did the game end with some demons, and a portal to another world?
'Cause that's Quest for Glory 3.
