Of course Grandpa "believes" it. Santa draws attention away from him.
She'd been drinking too much eggnog,
And we begged her not to go.

Sounds fishy to me. I bet she had a big fight with Grandpa shortly before this. Her eggnog may have even been laced with something.
When we found her Christmas morning,
At the scene of the attack
She had hoof prints on her forehead,
And incriminating Claus marks on her back.
How convenient. Things line up here just a little bit too perfectly. Sounds like planted evidence to me, likely by a third party. Even seems like it could be a way to make sure Grandpa collects on the life insurance.
