I'm a literature nerd so I'm probably biased but I think the Dante's Inferno game has potential. Dante goes through some hairy shit down there and it's chock full of awesome characters. It would take plenty of creative license and deviations from the canon but it could be sweet.
Also, if Gabe is reading this it would be sweet to have the final panel of December 15th's comic as a wallpaper of some sort.

Hey, I'm Gabe! That's a great idea you have! Expect to see the wallpaper on the front page within the next hour.
When I was in high school I knew a kid who thought it was really funny to hype himself up before playing a sport in gym or having a mock debate in class or whatever. People would buy into it and argue over having him on their team. Then once people started to notice how terrible he was he'd reveal that he was lying and laugh at people. He was a weird kid. But what I'm getting at is that maybe he was secretly John Romero and Daikatana was his form of self amusement.

I'm just confused as to why he would be punishing the demons for punishing the damned.

this is Dante's Inferno, not Purgatorio, unless there is some false advertising at work
