Is Devil May Cry 4 worth $15?

I just bought it on clearance at Target. Should I return it, or was that about the right price to pay? I enjoyed the first one, even though it's ridiculously difficult and I haven't beaten it yet, and I have the third one to play on PS2 as well.

DMC4 is definitely worth $15, regardless of platform (IMO)

if you can get over the cheesiness of Nero yelling "slam dunk!" when he attacks, then I guess the game is for you. But if not, stay far, far, away.

    360. I doubt my laptop could run it. I can barely run Fallout 3.

If you like hardcore action games that actually challenge you to improve your performance, then you can hardly do better than DMC4.

...that really sounded like the end of a review. But really, it's an awesome game.

I'm actually thinking of picking this up as well, since Ninja Gaiden 2 was somewhat of a disappointment. I can't stand any of the other DMCs, though, but if I can find it cheap I'll get it. There has been a serious lack of quality third person action games lately.

Absolutely worth it, playing as Nero is such a joy when you get the hang of using his arm. You can look like a total badass. The only problem with DMC4 is Dante because you just trek through all the levels again and fight bosses in reverse order, so it actually gets easier as you go farther. Even Dante has some awesome stuff though, like Pandora's Box and his needle weapon.

    If you didn't like 3, you won't like 4.

If you did like 3, price should be no object. Even though 4 it isn't quite as good.

I loved playing as Dante, the gloves and boots weapon set was awesome. I can't remember what they were called but the game was fun. Total badass-ery all over

Agreed. I thought 3 was a better game, but 4 is still good. Speaking of which, I should probably rebuy #4 now that it's dirt cheap (I sold my original copy on goozex back when it was still fetching top price with the intention of rebuying it later when it hit the bargain bins).

What is the PC port of DMC3 like? I heard it was really buggy, but has it been fixed up or anything? I actually started playing DMC4 and forgot how great this series is.

I'd get the PC version of DMC4. My PC is not a power machine (AMD 64 x2 5200, 3GB ram, 8800GT 512) and I have it at 1280x1024, super high details, 16xQSAA and I'm triple digit frame rates. This is assuming you have a gamepad, of course.

I'd say that overall 4 is a slightly better game than 3 but I still prefer DMC3's selection of weapons. Also playing as Vergil in the special edition was pretty cool.

Agree, I actually found Nero's gameplay much more enjoyable than Dante's. Theres just something very satisfying about having a grappling hook for a hand.

The PC port of DMC3 is pretty darn terrible. It's hard to configure gamepads to work with it properly, and not all of them work quite right. Also, it's missing several lighting effects and other effects from the PS2 version. I bought it and hate it, and I love the DMC series. Avoid avoid avoid!

To answer the actual question, DMC4 is still worth 60 in my opinion. It's fantastic, and a clever way to continue a series I was basically satisfied with after part 3.

It also has a much much much much more reasonable difficulty curve than 3.

    So yeah.

I just wish they wouldn't have pulled the character switch. I mean, they could have just given Nero an extra weapon or 2 you know? And relegated Dante to bonus character territory.

Yeah... 4 is kind of easy compared to 3, but 3 wasn't that bad. Agni and Rudra were the worst fight and they only took me about four tries.

The stupid Grim Reaper dudes in 4 are my most annoying enemy right now. Angel Knights are the best because the Devil Bringer attack makes me feel like a badass.

Absolutely worth the 15$. I've logged more than 100 hours on my gamesave and I'm still playing through it regularly. Incidentally, I'm having some trouble S-ranking some of the late game missions [15-17] on DMD. Anyone have tips for killing Blitz that don't involve Royal Block?

The only gripe i had with the game is the frequency of the (admittedley fun) bosses. In a single runthrough of the game, from the first act to the last, expect to fight most bosses twice due to playing through the game again as Dante, once more before the final (repeated) boss, then there is a good chance you will have to fight one again during the first board game as nero. So that's around 4, or maybe even 5 times you will fight each boss in one single runthrough depending on the difficulty, and after playing through the game on 2 more difficulties after that you will get very sick of them. Dante is fun but playing the exact same levels as Dante in reverse is dull.

Fantastic game though, worth it just for the best cutscene of all time http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=dOghrBWqm5Q

I liked it, even with the recockulous backtracking. Nero was a fine addition to the series, I just hope he doesn't whine as much in any future entries. Ultimately I still enjoyed controlling Dante more, just because of his huge list of moves. Nero just felt kind of boring after a while.

I think 4 is the better game overall, but goddamn did 3 have some awesome stuff in it. I especially miss the Electric Guitar that actually shoots electricity when you play it. I'm also of the opinion that Vergil is fucking badass.

I was hoping Nero would get to use the katana without having to spend Devil Trigger, but I guess Dante's Dark Slayer style sorta-kinda makes up for not having Vergil.

Coincidentally, I'm looking to unload my copy of DMC4 on goozex. Once I get my home PC working again, I'll get on that.

Meh. Liked 3 a lot more. This one had a great combat system...that rarely shows up because of all the puzzle/platforming bullshit they stuffed in. What? I can slow time? Wow, haven't seen that in every fucking action game since 2007. What? Kicking giant tops around to break scenery? Wtf? Hey, I liked the dice game. Any excuse to fight more was fine by me. Except when 2 thunder lizards showed up on DMD mode. Then I was a little upset.

Something I could never get enough of was sending those giant energy shockwaves across the screen with Dante's Swordmaster style. That move was awesome.

IIRC if you just use Nero's devil buster on the dice when the top of the dice is showing whatever number you want, that will be the number you get.

Once I found that out the dice game became a lot less annoying.
