So I was wondering if anyone was watching this show because I just recently discovered this (probably 3 or so months back) and have been trying to get as many of my friends as I can to watch the show. I'm pretty sure that because it's on USA it probably won't be able to attract as many viewers as the major broadcasting syndicates, but its just as good if not better than most of their "big shows."
Recap:
1) If you're not watching, start
2) If you're watching, keep up the good work
Wednesdays, watch it!
Well because someone said that this needs to include a summary:
Basically he pretends to be a "psychic" (turned detective) because after calling in on several crime cases around the city the police begin to suspect that he was an inside man for a theft job. However, he tries to explain that he's just really good at noticing little details on people, reading their body language/behavoir and possessing an amazing memory, however since they don't buy it he tells a lie that he's a psychic and can read people's minds/detect psychic readings from crime scenes. Also it has Corben Bernsen as the dad, you remember that really hoity toity guy from Major League, 2nd baseman if I recall? Well that's Sean's dad, who is an ex-cop and helps him from time to time, pictures later when I find some good ones. :P
Now you're interested right? Well let's look at the cast!
First we have the antagonist, the lovable "Shawn SpenSTAR (Spencer)"
Look at those pouty lips, how can you resist his stare for you to watch his show?
Shawn is basically a slacker who, because of his father who is a cop, notices small details that go unnoticed. Through this he is able to pretend he's a psychic in order to solve these crimes and refrain from being arrested (watch the first episode and you'll thank me later)
Along with Shawn's quirky antics comes the refined, sophisticated side-kick: Gus T.T. Showbiz (the extra T is for extra talent).
Actually... his real name is Burton "Gus" Guster. He's the responsible one who makes sure that their detective agency actually makes some money and that Shawn's antics aren't too over the top.
(I'll add the rest of the cast later and probably touch up Shawn and Gus's summaries)

Get right on that shit.
Actually, it is a pretty amusing show, although I am getting pretty sick of series whose premises begin with "Let's do a cop show, except..."
Now, it was one of the first ones.
Has the comedy gotten better, or does the main character always act like an idiot?

If it had been anyone other than Keith David I would have been upset...but since Keith David is awesome, I can't complain.
The new commercial they have out is pretty good though.
If by idiot you mean the bestest thing ever then no.
Seriously, what is wrong with you guys? Are you dead inside? Shawn is always awesome.
Well it is silly. But that's why I enjoy it.
Burn Notice comes back soon too, right?
Season 2 clips
That was a good episode.
Also, Burn Notice starts the 22nd or the 21st can't really remember the exact day, but I want to say the 22nd.
And I agree that Shawn can be too much sometimes and wish they'd do a better job explaining why people continue to like him so much or show him suffer more for being a jackass*, but this is something that I think they've done more as the show goes on.
*This is my same complaint with House. Sure, let him be a raging douche bag, but don't make everyone around him smirk, shake their head and say, "There's that House again, being a fuckstick like always! Gotta love him!"
But he's not really a jackass, in fact he's very gregarious and personable and possesing of a good deal of natural charisma.
House?
No, Shawn. Obviously.
Beat'd.
"... he was imprisoned for 12 years! Life was his sentence, life is what he got back!"
Hey man, sometimes it works!
I'm wondering if maybe the problem wasn't solved later in the series so much as there wasn't a problem ever and I only thought there was from the bits I saw before. Shawn as a kid could still be pretty mean though.
True. There was that one episode with the bomb where everyone was rather pissed at Shawn at the end.
wut
Character, not actor.
Oh, I didn't even know Shawn was Jewish so I was confused.
They bring it up on a semi-regular basis, and also show him having Jewish cultural landmarks, like the choice of Krav Maga as his psychic martial art (despite obviously not knowing it) and a basic understanding of Hebrew.
I guess I haven't watched the show enough. I saw the Krav Maga thing, but figured he just picked it because Krav Maga kicks ass.
This is why I have always had trouble getting into that show. They don't buy they guy just has a good sense of observation, despite the fact that his dad is a former cop, but they will buy the fact that he's a psychic.
I mean, the example they used in the premier was some dude acting nervous and shifty eyed, and Shawn saying, "Hey, maybe he was in on it!" And the cops treat this as the most unforeseeable observation ever.
Part of the problem is that it's on the same network as Monk, and they felt they had to give Shawn his own challenge in order to avoid the direct comparison of "Well, he's Monk, but without the personal obstacles." Does Shawn even have a main villain at this point?
I liked the episode where the Private School kids immediately call him on his BS, though.
Oh, and Hulu has the whole series, so there's no reason to not watch unless you're a filthy furriner and can't access the website.
