The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
I put Episode 2 on Hard and was just wondering what the difference is between Hard, Regular and Gentle.
Characters keep running away from me in battle...is this just a new feature or is this a difficulty thing? Can I chase them? Does anyone know the specifics of what changes when you change the settings?
I couldn't find anything in the included Help/How to Play page.
Well, you definitely can change the difficulty setting if you're not in combat.
When an enemy flees, you can't chase them, but they either move to another location
( I remember this happen once in the beginning of the game [Cloying Odor Sanitarium], where one Stout runs away from you, then you can meet him at the entrance
)
or just to bring back more enemies (happens many times).
Check the Dossier for enemy info if you don't know which ones I'm talking about.
Note that when you check the stats
[next to the jar, in Startling Development Detective Agency]
, there are only a certain numbers of enemies and it tends not to change so you shouldn't miss any, they just simply run to another location or bring back more enemies, as I said.
Well I don't really know if that's the case, as I rarely look and wait at enemies' heath bar to flash, but I look for certain animation that each enemy does before they attack to get a perfect block. It's hard at first, if you get used to the animations, you can even counter-attack! To my knowledge, there is no attack that couldn't be counter-attacked, except for both final bosses on both episode (I didn't score any counter-attack so far). Noted that the in first game, the final boss' third form's "Personal Attention" technique can be counter-attacked.
From what I could tell, you couldn't counterattack anything that hit more than one person. I don't know, maybe I just had to trouble with those attacks.

It also seems like it is a bit harder to block but it does make the game a bit more fun than I think it would have been had I left it on Gentle.
