Except that this has all been resolved now, and pretty much every major publisher has many or most of their games up on Steam, the fast, free digital distribution platform that lets you download the best PC games in your underpants, while serving you demos, trailers, slightly-delayed patches, and the like.

WHAT'S THE WEEKEND DEAL?
Buncha Ubisoft shit.

WHAT'S NEW ON STEAM?

Merchants of Brooklyn!

Burnout: Paradise!

Download TCPview: TCPView

Then, use TCPview (run as admin if you're on Vista) to close all Steam TCP servers (this is important, NOT the UDP ones, just the TCP ones). Steam will then reconnect to a different server, which will hopefully get you a better speed. If you don't go faster in a couple of seconds, retry until you get a speed you like.

This shit totally needs to go into the OP, I've tipped this to so many people already.

WHAT ELSE

With such a cool service, someone must have done some extra things to build on it. The forums have one such man, who made some super cool Steam signatures. They automatically use backgrounds for the games and the correct icon. Pretty neat, and they're 100% free! HE SAID HE WOULD KILL ME IF I DID NOT WRITE THIS OH GOD SAVE-You can also use a script on his page to see how much your Steam account would be worth if you were to buy every game individually.

YES VERY NEAT HERE IS A FREE SAMPLE:

Also there are some Penny Arcade Steam Groups you may enjoy (this is only a sampling!):
Plain old Penny Arcade
PAX Forumers
Penny Arcade League

Cool stuff on the Steam website:
Grand list of all price reductions
Steam skins to make it look less like army boot camp
Awesome stats

YOUR IDEAS INTRIGUE ME AND I WOULD LIKE TO SUBSCRIBE TO YOUR NEWSLETTER
Should I one day become incapacitated, the Steam News Feed is where it's at. Miss nothing! Otherwise you may never learn that the -pidfile command line option now works for Windows dedicated servers.

I WANT TO REGISTER MY GAME ON STEAM BECAUSE STEAM IS SEXIER THAN MY WIFE
Good idea! Unfortunately Valve games are just about the only games that let you do it. If you want to see if you're lucky though, here's a list of games you can register on Steam. You can always add a non-Steam game to your Steam games list, so that people can see you playing it.

So I was in the process of downloading GTA 4 through Steam and I started playing Dead Space. I close out of Dead Space and looked at my progress and it is back to 0% downloaded. Was at 65%. WTF is going on and how do I fix it? I have a whole bunch of the files on my PC, so it isn't like I deleted anything.

If it won't start downloading again, try deleting your clientregistry.blob file (or just rename it) and restarting Steam.

I can't play Max Payne 2 on this machine, but I've never played the original so whenever I pick it up I'll definitely drop the extra couple of bucks to get the two pack. I liked the old console Punisher game, which looks to be a carbon copy of Max Payne.

I wish Steam would let me sort games based on their system requirements. Either that, or make it mandatory for developers to include a demo.

Or just give me a button I can press to get a list that says "These games will work on your weakass GMA950".

    Also yesssss new thread smell!

The problem is not that I can't get it to restart. The problem is I was at 65% downloaded, and now it reads at 1%, even though I have 11.1 GB worth of GTA4 files on my pc now. It looks as if it's downloading everything again for no reason.

For some reason it is asking for my steam ID/password in order to let me buy stuff. Since I haven't actually had to use my ID/password in like a year and a half, I have no idea what they are. Or rather, I think I know what my password is, but have no clue as to my ID. Its not my email address, Last Son, or Last-Son.

I'm still logged in to steam(Can play games, view profile/friends, ect.), is there a way to pull up my account name within steam itself?

When I try to use their "Forgot your password?" link it just leads me to a FAQ page saying to go to the login page and choose the "Recover Account" link, of which there isn't one.

I assume they're the ones that you unlock once you complete the Story mode. Things like "X Towers" or "Y0,000 Resources", or perhaps just the Advanced Story mode, which is Story but the enemies are harder.

They're choices added below each mission.

So you scroll from Mission 1 (no extra modes) Story to Mission 2 (and beyond) Story, and under that should be things like Story Mode Advanced, 10 tower limit, 10,000 resources, Single Core challenge, etc.

I haven't played Fallout 3 in a couple of months, since like... December or late November. It takes several minutes for it to start and it's updating on Steam right now. Uh, were there any changes? I looked at the update log and there was nothing of interest. Or was this like a preDLC for Anchorage or whatever that new expansion is?

Also, it won't let me sign into GFW for having an invalid product key. What the shitttttt? D:

    Update:
Hmm... so the update to the game forced me to use the launcher whereas before, I renamed the actual game exe to the launcher so it'd record my time properly. Anyways, I did that again, and it found my saves. I think it lost my saves because it tried to sign me in with GFW but I had never used it previously so it assumed I was on a new account or something.

Yeah, there's a little description for each of them.

Story (Hard) is, as I described, the same as the normal Story mode, but the enemies are tougher.

Grinder is 99 waves of pissant regular low level enemies. Walkers or something. But there are fucking thousands of them.

Tower limit is as the name implies; you only get to make X (10-20) towers, so the type, level of upgrade and location of the towers becomes more important.

Resource limit mode gives you a giant chunk of resources (10-20,000, I believe) and that's all you get. No increases for killing enemies or generated over time. Basically you can place and upgrade what you want (within funding limits) right at the start and then power through the whole thing.

Single Core is simple enough; you get one core, period.

Practice mode is just getting like 20k resources and getting to mess around, sandbox style. Something about not being able to lose, or whatever, but I believe it still ranks your final score. *shrug*

That's about it. Not every level will have every alternate mode.
