THIS THREAD IS FOR VALVE'S CONTENT DELIVERY SYSTEM, NOT A WAY TO PREPARE VEGETABLESWHAT IS STEAM?
Except that this has all been resolved now, and pretty much every major publisher has many or most of their games up on Steam, the fast, free digital distribution platform that lets you download the best PC games in your underpants, while serving you demos, trailers, slightly-delayed patches, and the like.
WHAT'S THE WEEKEND DEAL?

Download TCPview:
TCPView
Then, use TCPview (run as admin if you're on Vista) to close all Steam TCP servers (this is important, NOT the UDP ones, just the TCP ones). Steam will then reconnect to a different server, which will hopefully get you a better speed. If you don't go faster in a couple of seconds, retry until you get a speed you like.
This shit totally needs to go into the OP, I've tipped this to so many people already.
WHAT ELSE
With such a cool service, someone must have done some extra things to build on it.
The forums have one such man, who made some super cool Steam signatures. They automatically use backgrounds for the games and the correct icon. Pretty neat, and they're 100% free! HE SAID HE WOULD KILL ME IF I DID NOT WRITE THIS OH GOD SAVE-You can also use a script on his page to see how much your Steam account would be worth if you were to buy every game individually.

I WANT TO REGISTER MY GAME ON STEAM BECAUSE STEAM IS SEXIER THAN MY WIFE
Good idea! Unfortunately Valve games are just about the only games that let you do it. If you want to see if you're lucky though,
here's a list of games you can register on Steam. You can always add a non-Steam game to your Steam games list, so that people can see you playing it.
jonxp applied to be a Release Engineer for Steam. We await a response from Valve, which cannot possibly ignore:
For posterity's sake...my cover letter...
To whom it may concern,
I am the very model of a Valve Steam Release Engineer
When communicating with the client, I'm extremely clear
I can handle any issue that is technological
From crashing apps to misused calls or things that make no sense at all
With tracing bugs I often find that I am truly of the best
I track them down right through the stack regardless of the coding mess
When clients need specific help with code based implementation
They'll find no greater pathway forward than my documentation!

I'm very good at testing apps and ensuring great quality
I have experience in handling code that has come third party

When efficiency we seem to need or high availability
Or perhaps we'd like to keep an eye on our security
For years I've handled servers for the maximum of the uptime
And protected them from outside threats of every like and kind.
As a coder I have seen the many ways development
Like Java, C#, PHP, and anything within .NET
When not scripting or unmanaged I can employ C++

With automated deployment scripts I have also spent some time
Sending code to several places with commands of just one line
My seven plus years writing code have been mostly in networking
Web based apps, network exchange, restarting servers remotely
As you can see I have attached a copy of my resume
My contact info is on there and I can be reached any day
I am not in Seattle now for Georgia is my current state
However to the far Northwest I'm hoping soon to relocate.

I wish Steam would let me sort games based on their system requirements. Either that, or make it mandatory for developers to include a demo.
Or just give me a button I can press to get a list that says "These games will work on your weakass GMA950".
Also yesssss new thread smell!

The problem is not that I can't get it to restart. The problem is I was at 65% downloaded, and now it reads at 1%, even though I have 11.1 GB worth of GTA4 files on my pc now. It looks as if it's downloading everything again for no reason.
When the download stops and is later resumed, the percentage is reset, but downloaded files aren't lost.
Thank you. I was worried it was starting over from scratch.
Really? Mine always stayed at the percentage it left off on.
I'm all over it next pay day
Also, I have UT3 downloaded and ready to go for some Game Ons.
I was just playing. I'm down for it, just not today since I have work. Add me to your friend's list and we can organize something in here.

Back in the Onslaught days of 2k4, I was an Avril menace. I like vehicles, but there's something almost visceral about knocking a Raptor out of the sky.
For some reason it is asking for my steam ID/password in order to let me buy stuff. Since I haven't actually had to use my ID/password in like a year and a half, I have no idea what they are. Or rather, I think I know what my password is, but have no clue as to my ID. Its not my email address, Last Son, or Last-Son.
I'm still logged in to steam(Can play games, view profile/friends, ect.), is there a way to pull up my account name within steam itself?
When I try to use their "Forgot your password?" link it just leads me to a FAQ page saying to go to the login page and choose the "Recover Account" link, of which there isn't one.
When you launch steam doesn't it say something like "Connecting steam account: <username>"? That'd be your userid.
I assume they're the ones that you unlock once you complete the Story mode. Things like "X Towers" or "Y0,000 Resources", or perhaps just the Advanced Story mode, which is Story but the enemies are harder.
They're choices added below each mission.
So you scroll from Mission 1 (no extra modes) Story to Mission 2 (and beyond) Story, and under that should be things like Story Mode Advanced, 10 tower limit, 10,000 resources, Single Core challenge, etc.
Your account name is displayed when connecting and in the title bar of the main Steam window.
So some of them have special objectives and the like?
Like earlier I was talking to Belo Legume (Impersonator on the forums) and he was talking about spiders which totally freaked me out because I hate spiders and then I ran into like 5 and I went
I've cleared debugging in IE8 Advanced Options.

That's been my experience every time I've tried to play this game. It's like, I can feel that there's a pretty fun game here, I can feel it. But fuck me if it isn't the buggiest piece of shit game I've ever installed.
EDIT:
Oh.
My.
God.
What the crap. Where's my save.
Also, it won't let me sign into GFW for having an invalid product key. What the shitttttt?
Update:
Hmm... so the update to the game forced me to use the launcher whereas before, I renamed the actual game exe to the launcher so it'd record my time properly. Anyways, I did that again, and it found my saves. I think it lost my saves because it tried to sign me in with GFW but I had never used it previously so it assumed I was on a new account or something.
JIT runtime errors sound more like IE crashing and burning than some option to fiddle with.
You can find those somewhere in My Documents, you can just move them around into the GFW account if you really want to use that.
No matter if the story is awful I'd been waiting for a medieval/fantasy fps ever since Hexen 2 which was apparently the last one so the game was a godsend.
edit:
Guys, guys, holy shit, so there's this polish website that sells a bunch of games right? The thing is that the prices are converted and adapted for the polish people, meaning that you can get awesome deals like:
The Orange Box for 8,97€ / 10.83$
and
Left 4 Dead for 11,95€ / 14.44$
They just send you the serial-keys but holy shit is this cheap. I've already bought The Orange Box for my girlfriend just because Portal's in it
Except the results do appear after I clear 4 JIT popups. Also, it would occur before I installed IE8.

Yeah, there's a little description for each of them.
Story (Hard) is, as I described, the same as the normal Story mode, but the enemies are tougher.
Grinder is 99 waves of pissant regular low level enemies. Walkers or something. But there are fucking thousands of them.
Tower limit is as the name implies; you only get to make X (10-20) towers, so the type, level of upgrade and location of the towers becomes more important.
Resource limit mode gives you a giant chunk of resources (10-20,000, I believe) and that's all you get. No increases for killing enemies or generated over time. Basically you can place and upgrade what you want (within funding limits) right at the start and then power through the whole thing.
Single Core is simple enough; you get one core, period.
Practice mode is just getting like 20k resources and getting to mess around, sandbox style. Something about not being able to lose, or whatever, but I believe it still ranks your final score. *shrug*
That's about it. Not every level will have every alternate mode.
JIT is Java or .NET compiler errors.
