The advanced missions are actually just any mission past, 6(I believe). It's essentially so that you can't get some of the achievements really easily by doing them on any of the really easy levels.
You do unlock the challenge modes for each level when you beat it. Those are the ones below each mission.

At least it shares the vertical wall learning curve with EVE. :P
I've never found it to be difficult to play. I imagine the learning curve primarily deals with the economy and becoming a successful trader, but that's an entire section of the game I stayed away from. X3: Reunion doesn't give you much options outside of trading to earn a lot of money, though Terran Conflict has all sorts of missions available that can reward you quite handsomely. I'm really thankful for that.
If you love open-ended space games, it's a great one to pick up, probably one of the best. Make sure to get X3: Terran Conflict, though, and not the original. So far I've found it to be better in almost every way. There are a bunch of great mods to grab, too. Conflicts is probably my favorite, which allows all the factions in the game, even the player, to declare war with each other and battle for control of all the sectors. Combat Mod 3 is also worth getting, and the thread for it will have links to some great optional mods, as well (Comms Ambient, Experimental Ship Mod, Military HUD).
Ow! my wallet.

Are they all private? I'm in one, and have been meaning to join the forumers group. I didn't realize that you needed an invite.

2 out of 3 listed on the OP are on invites only.

It's stand alone. And you don't have to worry about playing the others to get up to speed. The X games aren't about the main quests, nor are those quests memorable. The games are about freedom.
There's another game you might want to look up if you like these type of games. It's not on Steam, so I won't ramble on about it, but look up Evochron Legends. It's an indie game that comes out on the fifth, and it even has multiplayer.
space games
It depends on the group. If they're private just try finding whoever is the admin of the group (it's listen on the Community page for that group). Also the info is usually in the thread for that specific game.
edit: though the main PA group chat is pretty dead. Gimme yer steam id.
Anyone else confirm this is legit? If so I might be able to sell some of my friends on L4D that haven't bought it yet (due to crap like Warhammer Online).
Oh shit! I watched the trailer on their site and my pants flew off here at work. I'm going to try the rengdes demo to see if like it.
Believe it or not, you can still look at that graphics without having to vomit in an instant. I guess I'll buy it. And yes, I know I'm late.
But I'll probably buy that http://store.steampowered.com/sub/439/.
And oh, wasn't there some sort of sequel to Heretic? Where is it, I can't find it.
I hope you like it. Legends is improving on it from interactivity with planets, city size (they're small in Renegades), graphics, missions, ship designs, and a whole bunch more. I wouldn't mind having someone to play it with online. Everything carries over between MP and SP, too. They're not separate.
I really wish more space games would have seamless flight to and from the atmosphere of planets. That's a feature I've been dying to have in these type of games. The only games I've seen attempt these kind of features are all indie games (Infinity is looking quite nice; it's too bad it's an MMO). Evochron games also don't require the use of the jump gates, either. You can freely fly system to system. I hope X4, if they're making it, will borrow some of these features.
Hexen 1 was the sequel to Heretic, I think.
I can attest to this, seeing as how I own if and play it often
Way to go, Heretic + Hexen Collection.
Raven did it, not id. I hope they get Raven's stuff up on Steam sometime, because then we'd have Quake IV and Kingpin and didn't they do the Elite Force games too?

Edit: Actually, I think this just changes where you download games from, not how you pay.
Well, I've seen countless reports of this working, for example on the SA and/or Neogaf forums ;-)
yes please

There's like eight people on Steam with Guibs as their display name. It'd be much easier for everyone if you posted a link to your profile.
I believe a similar offer was posted a while ago on the slickdeals.net forums. People bought keys that were meant for the asian territories. I think some of the keys got disabled in the long run. I can't find the thread though.
Agreed, did you play the crappy follow up expansion which let you wander round voyager aimlessly.
Bunting, Owls and Cushions! Feecloud Designs
Yes, but this time it's different, well at least for Europeans (Poland=Europe), I don't really know how legal it is for people in NA, though.
Same thing happened to me with World of Goo. I'm not sure the update, but 2 nights ago it def. said updating while I was installing UT3.
and
I'll have to play it when I have the time
Shit yeah.
