Not to divert from this fascinating topic of debate, but-

So I recently bought some books on Middle East history because 1) The news makes the Mideast seem like kind of a big deal and 2) Ubisoft makes cool games set in the Mideast.

Reading through part of the first one makes me realize that hey I really do not know squat about Mideastern history. Is it just because I went to Catholic school up until high school and they didn't want to mention any of those other currently existing religions, and then I never had to take any college history courses? Or are most Americans just more or less totally uninformed about it as well?

All I remember being informed of was, "hey Sumerians ____________ [strike]Crusades[/strike] ______________ and then 9/11 happened." :? Surely something must of happened over there within the last couple thousand years that's worth mentioning, at least more so than teaching that Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin every damn year.

Yeah, there's a whole lot to catch up on. While Europe was in the Medieval Ages, the Middle East had a period of enlightenment and expansion. They kept the Ancient Greeks' work alive, progressed a lot in mathematics, science, and navigation, not to mention all the art, architecture, and literature (well, I'm only familiar with Omar Khayyam's Rubaiyat). Baghdad was one of the biggest intellectual centers of that time until the Mongols sacked it.

And somewhere along the way, they just decided to stop advancing.

Yeah, it makes me sad in my heart.

    Bacon, I started with this:

    http://www.amazon.com/Rise-Early-Modern-Science-Islam/dp/0521529948/ref=pd_sim_b_4

and then my high school teachers gave me a bunch of other stuff- none of which whose titles I can recall right now.

I completely suck at geography. I also mess up a lot of US states.

I'm sure once I travel more this will change...there's just been no real purpose right now to me knowing exactly where Uzbekistan is.

    Or Utah, for that matter.

I got 31/39, because nobody told me of any so-called Nunavut.

You Canadians could have put out a press release about it or sent out some stickers that said, NUNAVUT GOES HERE, because I assure you that US schools are way too cheap to buy new maps just because you dudes wanted to dick around up there.

People need to lighten up on Loomy. I mean, it's possible that any of us have some sort of illness, but is it very nice to go, 'hmm.. dyslexia? no? [some time passes] autism? [some time passes] ohhh, maybe it's ADHD? maybe?'

So my Ipod broke. The headphone jack. The sound is muffled and shit. I told that to someone else, they said the same thing happened to him. I'm wondering, are these things made to break one year after you buy it? Cause thats how long I had it. My warranty is out. So I can only get like 15 bucks store credit out of it.

Which I'm also thinking, I need to get a phone. I want to kill two birds with one stone. Should I get an Iphone? Or what phone would you recommend that has a lot of memory for a lot of songs/videos/pics n shit?

see this all sounds like bad signs
you should tell your family doctor all this stuff and they'll refer you to a specialist

i can't believe you just live with that, that would drive me insane!
if you go to get help for it, they can give you exercises or meds to help you with it, depending on what it is.

Fuck no. Going to a public high school. The place I went to was pretty close-minded and mean, which isn't true of a lot of the Catholics I know, me included. It was so bad it burned out a lot of people I know on religion.

St. Robert's was an elementary school but ok.

The catholic schools I went to have the catholic aspect to it but really all it meant was the student's parents had more money than average, rather than it being about them being catholic.
