THE DEAD WALK AGAIN AS CAPCOM CONFIRMS DEAD RISING 2
Sequel to 1.5 million-plus seller announced for multiple gaming platforms
London February 9, 2009 - Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today confirmed that Dead Rising 2 is in development for three different gaming platforms: the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Sony Computer Entertainment PLAYSTATION 3 (PS3) and the PC. The sequel to the 1.5 million-plus selling Dead Rising, Dead Rising 2 will take the franchise to a new level of zombie-killing fun with tens of thousands of zombies, the all new gambling paradise of Fortune City to explore and conquer plus a host of new in-game objects that can all be used as deadly weapons to stave off the zombie assault.

Dead Rising 2 is set several years after the infamous zombie invasion of Willamette. Unfortunately, the zombie virus was not contained at the conclusion of Dead Rising, spreading unchecked throughout the United States and Dead Rising 2 depicts a country where zombie outbreaks continue to strike.

Dead Rising 2 is being developed in partnership with up and coming Canadian developer Blue Castle Games. A number of members from the original Dead Rising team will be working alongside Blue Castle Games throughout the development process, including Capcom's global head of research and development, Keiji Inafune, who as the game's Producer will play an active role in the project.

Released in 2006, Dead Rising won praise across the globe for its mix of intense zombie action and dark humour, garnering numerous awards including IGN's Most Innovative Design for Xbox 360, Gamespot's Best Action-Adventure Game for 2006 and Action Game of the Year at the 2006 Spike TV Video Game Awards.

Further details concerning the story and gameplay of Dead Rising 2 will be made available shortly.

On Multiplayer:
A tangled web of lies finally unravels as Capcom's Keiji Inafune confirms that Dead Rising 2 will indeed have multiplayer.

We've known that the game would contain multiplayer since Mental Mill's Laura Scholl announced at the Game Developers Conference last month that Dead Rising 2 would support 6,000 zombies on screen at one time during multiplayer. Soon after, however, Scholl cleverly threw everyone off scent by ingeniously telling the gaming world that she meant to say "multiplatform" instead of "multiplayer".

So up until now we just assumed that the game would have 6,000 zombies on screen during multiplatform, which makes perfect sense. Now that we know for sure that there is multiplayer in the game, we can all get really pissed off when it comes out and doesn't contain a multiplatform mode.

As for why Dead Rising 2 contains multiplayer when the previous title sold fine without it? Inafune explains.

"We're at a point in game history that you need to have some form of multiplayer component in a game"

Because they have to. Excellent.
Update: Multiplayer will be an arena themed minigame style zombie fest where you take out hoards of zombies in various wacky scenarios.

Dead Rising was far from perfect. They really need to improve NPC AI and such like DarkWarrior suggests. That said, even just a re-skin of the mall would be a welcome addition to my game library.

I really don't think its fake. Haven't they announced a new DR for fall 2009? Would make sense to start getting the knowledge out there and building interest.

It'll never be perfect, i.e there were no real back rooms and such like you'd find in DOTD and so I wouldn't expect to find myself as part of a hotel/casino where I can kick open rooms and explore the remains of the residents. I would expect instead a chunk of open town cut off by earthquake.

I just find it extremely suspicious the video keywords say fake. Add in the 'style' of the video - very grainy, difficult to make out - and it becomes difficult to believe.

In this day and age of PR, they like to control perception by releasing the highest of high def trailers they can, not a youtube video.. I mean Square-Enix have banned the downloads of the FF13 trailer full-stop.

Why would Capcom, or somebody who's leaking the video and breaking an NDA, put fake in the tags? It doesn't make sense.

Well, yes, but the chap in the comments says he got it from a leak on Xbox Live. He's since deleted the comment, but trust me when I say earlier today he posted a comment on the video saying he downloaded it from Live and now it's gone. That's fairly unlikely in itself.

Factor in his account being based in the UK, too. If it was viral marketing, chances are it'd be handled by a US PR company who would set up a brand new US YouTube account to start the viral from. Capcom only have a shadow team over in this company for PR; I know this bit as they only handle review code, for interviews and stuff you have to go straight to Capcom USA; they don't have the infrastructure to set up a viral from this country.

That said, this guy clearly does have something going on, as he's got some exclusive Sega videos up on his account that I've never seen before.

I'm certain DR2 is coming, but if this is the actual trailer or announcement is another thing entirely. Reviewing everything I wouldn't write it off completely but it still stinks too much right now.
