No, I watched it. I sure saw a Tomahawk and a robot cape and a Pinkish/purple beam coming from the head.
So it's the second option. Other then a few similar design elements (which, knowing Gainax, were probably deliberate homages) they're pretty freaking different.
This proves that not only does Shrimpy not watch most shows he has an opinion on, he doesn't even pay attention to any part he does watch that doesn't involve explosions. Like plot and characterization, those pesky things.
I don't mind plot and characterization, but if it's only plot and characterization and not enough action,. it's no different than watching some stupid school drama or the other types of Anime I hate.
Without drama and plot to underscore the purpose behind an action scene it's pointless. A good action scene is more then pretty motions and explosions. It's meant to be a vehicle to advance the drama itself. Characters press their ideals and desires into the combat they're engaged in.
Big fights should be rare even in big action series because they're meant to be high points of the plot, it's where the story crashes together, things change and characters reveal who they are.

Man the Major would use her thermoptic camo to climb up the robot, hack into it, disable it, and then when he gets out to check what's gone wrong, she'd take him easy
Your precious Ryouma's skull would explode like a watermelon at a Gallagher show
you know at first I thought this would be fun to talk about but now that I think about it this is basically one step removed from WHO WOULD WIN SUPERMAN OR GOKU so now I just feel dirty
And did I really just make a Gallagher reference? Who's gonna get that? Ugh I'm too tired
Wow I would never think I would be into Skip Beat its very far in my taste of Anime but I love her blueish devils they are so entertaining.
WTF is tha Code Geass Hentai?

Tell that to Uncle Go and god knows how many Super Robot writers.

And that's just SAG major. Have you seen the movie? She does whetever the hell she fucking wants, including becoming a incorporeal being most likely capable of nuking everybody from orbit
I too really want a third season for SAC. There's really no other anime like it. I have to experience the fusion of Production IG's beautiful visuals and Yoko Kanno's incredible music once again.
Ok, I just finished Toradora ep 13 (end of the school festival arc) and I don't understand something. At the end, after she wonders if she's a lesbian, Minori says, "Huh, I'm speaking normally?" What the hell does that mean? The obvious conclusion is that she's usually incapable of speaking normally to guys, but she's already spoken to Takasu on numerous occasions.
I'm pretty sure she meant something more along the lines of "Did I just say that out loud?"
Dude, you actually need a background and reason for the fighting, or else it's power rangers and yatterman without the boob jokes that made it popular.

the way I interpreted that part while watching it was
just like how everyone else in the show is a fake, so is minorin. and she's surprised she let herself slip for a second.
CD's explanation is simpler and probably correct.

Things I Hate About Japanimation #42: poor translation that makes no sense due to a) a bad translator or b) being forced to use ten words instead of five to fill in the blanks in the character's mouth movements
hahaha this page is empty to me it's like i have top post!
thanks bakarrteterhththth!~
Lockon dies, Bradley's secretary is momma Elric, he was dead the whole time, Shinji mustn't be afraid, Gandalf wasn't dead, and Gurren Lagann gets big.
Well, "Huh, I'm speaking normally?" is pretty much a 1 for 1 translation of "Eh, futsuu ni shabetteru?"
Maybe there is another meaning, though, like Pika alluded to.
As I understand it, most of the time she resorts to archaic Japanese, or overly literal, or formal, or mixing up idioms and such. So I think it's really meant to mean that she just inadvertently started speaking like a normal person.

The Ironic thing is I've actually been watching Super Sentai to make up for the fact that the recent Mecha shows suck.

This would also make sense.
I wonder if there's going to be a dub for Toradora, and if it would be any good.
ryuu_rogue is taking entirely too long finishing the last few episodes of Digimon Adventure. Splash and folks do them some good work, though.
But I need that last bit of footage for my [MAD], dammit. Nothing will be more epic than Digimon Adventure/Bokura no War Game set to SKILL- JAM PROJECT. NOTHING.

Whenever I read someone put "The Major" in their posts what comes to mind is:
"Gentlemen, I love war."
Never really got into Hellsing
Not even the OVAs beyond a basic "oh this animation isn't bad" admiration
I just couldn't decide whether I was supposed to take the show seriously or not
Nah, definitely not serious. It is what it is; vampires going fucking nuts and gun porn. The OVA is a very close remake of the manga, which itself had stellar artwork devoted to doing pretty much the same thing.

Good series. I get the impression that the final bit was something of a dream sequence, though. Haru seemed weirdly placid about Akiyuki being back, and he looked exactly the same as he did nine years earlier.
Ishu with short hair = :winky:
Also: to my shame, I have never actually seen anything Ghost in the Shell-related. What's good, what's bad, what's available?

The movies are pure pseudo-philosophical drivel(except Solid State Society which is more like the show) but the two Stand Alone Complex series are a pretty solid sci-fi police show, so just start from episode 1 I'd say.

Eh, if you aren't familiar with the Ghost in the Shell universe, though, I'd recommend viewing the first film before Stand-Alone Complex, et al, because it IS a film considered a staple of anime viewing, and it's better going into the television series knowing a bit about the universe rather than it being your first exposure to it.
The second Ghost in the Shell film, Innocence, takes place after the events of the first film, and if you thought the first film was full of philosophy, you're in for a real treat with this one. Not as recommended viewing as the first, but I still think it's worth a viewing because it adapts one of my more liked manga storylines, and the animation in the film is just beautiful.
BTW, Solid State Society wasn't a theatrical release like GitS and Innocence, it was a television movie done as a substitute for a full third season of SAC.
Minorin lost some points right here. Taiga however gained some by not being her usual violent self. Ami's still my top pick. Yuri-sensei remains hilarious.

Don't bring a Real Robot knife to a Super Robot fight. especially if it's just a Cyborg. even the Tachikomas wouldn't be of any help.

I only meant that I liked GITS as it was and don't feel anything could be added by more.

episode 18? yeah, I agree
I, as a German, always get a laugh out of the Japanese speaking German.
In OVA 4 when von Winkle started singing "Gegen England" and "Der Freischütz" I almost lost it.
Also "Gentlemen, I love war." is fantastic.
Chrome Shelled Regios. Rpg anime indeed. At least it seems like it'll have a fair bit of action.
