RoboCop is a damn fine movie. It came out in the late 80's. Some of you unfortunate bastards may have never seen it. Hulu wishes to fix that. Go here if you are one of those unwashed heathens.

It stars this handsome devil.

RoboCop was one those violent 80's movies everyone loves. Shit gets crazy when Murphy gets taken to town by a bunch of thugs. Exploding hand, arm and a bullet to the head. No better way to show the birth of a hero. When I think of Detroit it's not the Tigers or cars, it is RoboCop. It was directed by Paul Verhoeven. The guy that directed Starship Troopers, Total Recall, The Hitchhiker, Basic Instinct and a bunch of foreign movies I've never watched. He also got Jessie from Saved By The Bell to be a slut in Showgirls. Which he directed but I am not inclined to call it a movie.

The guy that created RoboCop was inspired by a poster for Blade Runner. Which in awesome because Blade Runner is one of the best movies ever. He used Judge Dredd and Iron Man as inspiration as well.

You guys should watch it if you haven't. Let's discuss it if you have. Like the funny commercials and over the top violence. Maybe even talk about the sequels and TV shows. I would like to mention that Darren Aronofsky is making a new RoboCop. It is supposed to be out in 2010. If you're not American and want to watch it on Hulu try this. Mods let me know if that is cool.

    I read the title and thought "this better be a damn robocop thread" and it was and now I'm happy.
    This is honestly one of my varoutie movies, it has ever thing! Action, romance, robot fights, and an explotion. What more does a movie need?

    Robocop two was pretty good as well, though i don't get how no one saw the giant robot cop fueled by drugs piloted by a drug addict was a terrible idea. How in the world is that a GOOD idea?

    If I remember right, the main changes are that the deaths of Murphy and the executive killed by ED 209 are much messier in the Criterion cut.
