So the other day I was at The Weekly Crisis, run by our very own KVW, and he posted this neat little comics magazine thing he did. I thought to myself “Wow, this is really neat.â€
And it got me to thinking, why couldn’t I do this? Better yet, why couldn't we do this? I feel like I am good enough with Photoshop and InDesign to do layouts, and although I’m not a great writer, I am a pretty good editor. So the only thing missing is content.
Not to steal KVW’s idea or anything, but I would love to go forward on this. The only problem is, I would need some writers. They could write on anything really, as long as it related to comics somehow. Movies, toys, video games, favorite comics pet, what hero do you hate the most, who has the biggest bulge(it’s Captain Marvel by the way), ANYTHING.
So basically I’m posting this to see if anyone is interested. I would be the editor, and probably the layout guy. All you guys would have to do is write whatever the hell you feel like. I know we got some talented writers out there. As for artists, I was thinking maybe a small 3 panel comic at the end, or a "featured GV artist of the month" kind of thing.
I think it would be a cool thing to do as a community. Also, there would be no profit off of any of this, it will just be posted on the internet for free download, and I’ll even do the hosting.
If enough people are interested in this we can start talking about features and the like. But before I get ahead of myself I want to see if anyone here would actually want to contribute to something like this.
So what do you think? Anyone up for it?

As something serious (and not really associated with Penny Arcade or the forums), yeah I'd be interested. But if it was something that was intended just for GVers to read, I think it'd be try to be too big for its own good.
And Sars, the cover would obviously be "FLASHES NEW CAR - WHY DOES HE NEED IT IF HE CAN RUN FASTER?"

I want to do this, and GV was the first place that popped in my head that I knew had some talented people that like comics.
That being said, there is no way I could accept EVERYONE who submitted an article. That would just be too much work for me and I could see the magazine easily topping over 50+ pages. Which is quite a bit more than I want at this point.
My purpose right now is to gauge interest. If I feel like enough people are interested I'll probably do a call for submissions or something and see how it looks. If there are a crazy amount of submissions I'll probably have to pick cherry-pick the articles I feel should be in the magazine. Or perhaps save the other ones for a later edition.
Honestly, I'm figuring not everyone that says they want to do it is actually going to participate. And then after one issue I'll know how the workload is and go from there. If we could get a base of reliable writers that routinely contributed that would be awesome.

finally a place where i can talk about how Young Justice was the best superhero comic ever and oh man everything used to be so great
not sure yet. like i said, right now I am just testing the waters to see if enough people want to do this.
I'll let people if/when I want ideas/submissions.
Until then, feel free to come up with column or feature ideas and post them here. It might inspire some other people to come up with ideas of their own or get excited about this little project.

However, if this actually takes off and get an issue or three, I can see what I can do about hooking up the better writers with possible phone interviews. I have a few friends in the industry that we could interview, but that is still be a pretty big "if."
